Obituary of Tony Schikowsky

The family of Anthony "Tony" Schikowsky, longtime Yorkton resident, sadly announce his passing on Monday, March 16, 2026. He was 95 years of age.

The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 8, 2026 at 1:00pm from St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton with Father Sathi Antony presiding.

The Interment will follow in the Yorkton City Cemetery.

Anthony “Tony” Schikowsky, 95 years old, passed away on March 16, 2026 at Yorkton Union Hospital. He was the widower of Jeannette (Bourree) Schikowsky. They shared 47 years of marriage together.

Born on a farm near Avonlea Saskatchewan, he was the son of Peter and Veronica Schikowsky.

He attended elementary school at Richburg School in Saskatchewan and finished his high school at Notre Dame Wilcox Saskatchewan. He started working at the Brick Factory in Claybank, Saskatchewan and then moved to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan to work at Canada Packer and Providence Hospital. While in Moose Jaw, they were blessed with two children, Marion and Mathew. The family moved to Unity, Saskatchewan when Tony accepted a position at the Sifto Salt Plant where Katherine became the newest addition to the family.

Tony began taking Steam Engineering courses and job opportunities took him to Yorkton, Saskatchewan where he was hired as a civilian Steam Engineer at the Orcadia Military Radar Base. He later started his tenure as Chief Engineer at Yorkton Regional High School from 1968 to1996.

He was a faithful member of St. Gerard’s Church and was a Board Member of Yorkton Minor Sports. He enjoyed hockey, baseball, football, lacrosse, fishing, camping, gardening, and spent many hours in his shop repairing electronics such as TV’s and radios.

He will be remembered for playing the accordion and his competitive edge, but most importantly, his kindness and thoughtfulness.

He is survived by his brother, Bert Schikowsky (Regina SK) and his children Marion Schikowsky-Smith (Winnipeg, MB), Mathew Schikowsky (Yorkton, SK) and Kathy Wood-Swain (Michael) of Dalmeny SK.

Grandchildren: Allison (Brian) Pearce, Aislin (Jeremy) Cullen, Lana (Quinn) Haider, Sara (Myron) Matcyk, Brenna (Don) Baluk, Janice (Darin) Reeves, Michelle Wood.

Great Grandchildren: Jack Cullen, Cordelia Cullen, Avery Pearce, Amelie Pearce, Alexa Haider, Brynn Haider, Emme Matcyk, Bennett Matcyk, Brielle Baluk, Zander Baluk, Ellena Wilby (Ken), Evan Wood-Schleede, Veronica Wood.

He is predeceased by parents Peter and Veronica Schikowsky, siblings Loretta, Louis, Bernard, Jeannette, daughter in law Sharon Schikowsky, son in law Robert Smith,  and grandson Mathew (Junior) Schikowsky.
