Obituary of Elsie Mehling

The family of Elsie Mehling of Yorkton, beloved wife the late Elmer Mehling, sadly announce her passing on Saturday, April 11, 2026. She was 92 years of age.

Elsie Ruth Mehling (Schwab), beloved wife of the late Elmer Mehling, passed away April 11, 2026, at the Yorkton Regional Hospital. She was 92 years of age. Elsie was born in Runnymede, SK to a family of four sisters and four brothers. In 1954, Elsie and Elmer fell in love at a café in Kamsack and started a life together. A year later on July 30th, 1955, they married in Stornoway, SK and were blessed with three boys, Rob, Keith, and Al. Elsie enjoyed tending to her garden and all the beautiful flowers. Elsie and Elmer worked together at the Stornoway Co-op until the store shut down in 1991. They later moved to an apartment in Yorkton, SK. After Elmer's passing in 2009, Elsie moved to Fisher Court where she enjoyed playing cards and bingo with the ladies. She cherished visits from her family and kept in touch by texting and sending pictures that she coloured on her iPad. Elsie is predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Elizabeth Schwab. Her siblings, Millie (Fritz) Welke, Henry Schwab, Mary (John) Leis, Rose Liebrecht, Dave (Ann) Schwab, Manuel (Lorraine) Schwab, Richard Schwab, and Ester McKay. Elsie leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Rob (Sindy) Mehling, Keith Mehling, and Al (Charmaine) Mehling; her grandchildren Sean (Courtney) Mehling, Jordan Mehling, Sara (Steve) Mehling, Ashley (Dakota) Norris, and Amber (Darren) Mehling; her great grandchildren Kaden and Hunter, Jocelyn and Noah, and Eva; her sister-in-law Helen Schwab and brother-in-law Dennis McKay; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Thursday, April 23, 2026 from the Chapel of Bailey’s Funeral Home. A Memorial Service was held on Friday, April 24, 2026 from Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre Pastor Kai Buck of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Organist Verna Liebrecht led the congregation in hymns ‘Amazing Grace’, ‘I Know that My Redeemer Lives’, and ‘Abide with Me’. The interment followed in the Garden of St. Mark, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Elsie’s Grandchildren serving as urn bearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation as gifts of remembrance. Condolences may be left for the family at www.baileysfuneralhome.com.
