Wayde Morley

Obituary of Wayde Morley

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Wayde Allan Morley, born October 8, 1953, in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Wayde will be lovingly remembered as a devoted husband, father, Pappa, brother, and friend.

Wayde grew up in a family of seven kids and spent many of his younger years at the family cottage at Parr Hill Lake, where he developed a deep love for the outdoors. Much of his time was spent in the bush, where he came to know every trail, a connection to nature that stayed with him throughout his life. He also held many fond memories of his younger years on Bailey Drive, including winter shinny games and campouts around the Yorkton Nature Trail lake, times filled with friendship, adventure, and the beginnings of lifelong passions.

Wayde was the beloved husband of Shirley Morley, whom he married on October 12, 1974. The two first met in Yorkton at the Corona Motor Hotel, where Wayde won Shirley’s heart with his unforgettable dance moves on the dance floor, a story that remained a cherished part of their life together. Together they built a life rooted in family, commitment, and enduring love, and in 2024 proudly celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

He was a proud father to Jamie Morley and Chase Morley. He was also a loving father-in-law to Christopher Triggs, husband of Jamie, and Cassidy Morley, wife of Chase. He was a cherished grandfather to Mack Morley, who lovingly knew him as “Pappa.” Being Pappa was a role Wayde held close to his heart and brought him immense joy.

Wayde enjoyed many years living out at the family farm, known to many as “Morley’s Horny Ranch.” Whether checking the cattle and horses or deciding what the next project would be, he found great purpose and pride in farm life. He took pride in the park like farmyard he created, and many evenings were spent sharing stories and laughter around the fire with family and friends. Wayde was a great storyteller and loved nothing more than having a group of hunters gathered around, sharing the latest tale, especially about the big buck he had just spotted.

Wayde had a deep passion for hunting and took great pride in it. He loved nothing more than bringing people down to the basement to show his trophies, sharing the stories behind each one with enthusiasm and detail. For Wayde, it was never just about the hunt, it was about the experience, the stories, and the people he shared them with.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Wayde spent many years playing baseball and hockey, including time with the Miller’s hockey team, forming lasting friendships and enjoying many road trips with the team, memories that stayed with him throughout his life.

In the last few years, Wayde was just getting into the swing of retirement, embracing a slower pace of life and enjoying the things he loved most. He took great pride in his home, especially his yard. He built strong connections with his neighbours on Canwood Crescent and took on what he jokingly called his new full-time job of snow cleanup.

Becoming a grandfather brought a wonderful revitalization to Wayde’s life. He laughed more, smiled often, and was happiest when spending time with Mack. He cherished his babysitting trips to Saskatoon, where they shared many special moments, especially visits to Cabela’s, looking at the animals and teaching Mack all the different animal calls. These were moments he treasured deeply.

Wayde and Shirley also enjoyed some wonderful family travels in recent years, creating lasting memories together. These included trips to Alaska, Mexico, and a memorable driving trip through the United States to California. They had also recently been looking forward to a family trip to the Maritimes this fall, reflecting their continued love of adventure and time spent with loved ones.

Wayde loved nothing more than being outdoors. Whether hunting, fishing, trapping, or simply walking through the bush looking for sheds, nature was his sanctuary.

Wayde was predeceased by his father, Allan Morley; his mother, Edith Morley; his sister, Deborah Cumming; his brother, Clinton Morley; his father-in-law, John Holowatuk; and his mother-in-law, Mary Holowatuk.

In his passing, he leaves to mourn his brothers Dale Morley and Jeff Morley (Michelle Morley); his sisters Valerie Morley (Rick Wheeler) and Kim Mentanko; his sister-in-law Sharon Boyko Morley; as well as many nieces and nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Wayde will be remembered for his strength, his love of the outdoors, his gift for storytelling, his devotion to family, and his quiet chuckle. Though his passing was sudden, the memories he leaves behind, especially those of Pappa, and the many stories he shared will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of Wayde’s life was held on Saturday, May 2, 2026 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Terry Greene, Certified Celebrant officiating. The eulogy was delivered by Jamie and Chase. The honorary urn bearers were the Miller Hockey Team. The interment followed in the Garden of Gethsemane, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Christopher Triggs, Cassidy Morley and Mack Morley serving as urn bearers.

Memorials in memory of Wayde may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation as gifts of remembrance.
