Obituary of Olga Owerko
The family of Olga Owerko of Kelliher sadly announces her passing on June 3, 2026 at the age of 83 years old.
Olga was born on May 12, 1943, in Jasmin as the youngest of 5 children to Nick and Pauline (Byski) Prymak. Survived by her beloved husband Eugene of 64 years, children; Kelly (Treena) Owerko, Alexandra, Austin (Ashley), Mathew, Okotoks; Kim (Terry) Evans; Scott, Kayla and Seth, White City; Jason Owerko, Nikolas, Regina. Sisters Rosie and Mary and brother-in-law Stan (Marge) Owerko and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Nick and Pauline Prymak as well as father-in-law Alexander Owerko and mother-in-law Mary Owerko, sister Annie (Louie) Macza, brother Ted Prymak and brother in-laws Elmer Fushtey and Lorne Misiurski.
Olga grew up with her family 8 miles south of Kelliher on the farm and went to New Haven country school. At the age of 14 the family moved into Kelliher where Olga completed her high school. Olga met her husband of 64 years, Eugene while in high school and were married on August 4, 1962. Olga and Eugene raised their family in Kelliher and she worked at the Bank of Montreal and later the Credit Union as a teller off and on over the span of 40 years. Olga took a very active role in farming with Eugene spending the most time behind the controls of the combine and driving truck.
Olga would say that her strongest love was raising and praying for her family. She cherished family get-togethers and especially when she could provide a full Ukrainian feast big enough to feed an army, play cards and telling stories about the old days. While raising her family she could be found at the local hockey arenas cheering on Kelly and Jason’s hockey games or Kim’s figure skating or Ukrainian dance concerts. Olga loved to spend time with her grandchildren and would quite often take them for a week each summer and teach them how to make perogies, scuffles, the fine art of pulling weeds in the garden and play bingo and cards, (hola and 3 spot being her favorites).
Olga had a passion and talent for gardening, sowing much more than she or her family ever needed but took great joy in giving vegetables to neighbors and friends in the community. Up until her passing she was still planning to have her garden freshly manured and planning the layout. Olga was an avid community supporter and volunteer with many local groups such as the Ukrainian Catholic Church, Lionesses, Diamond Night, and curling club just to name a few.
Mom will be remembered for her strong faith in the Lord, her kindness, beautiful smile and love for all.
The family would like to thank the William Albert House staff for the great care of Mom (and Dad) during her short stay.
Prayers were held on Thursday, July 2, 2026 from St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church (formerly St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Catholic Church), Kelliher, Saskatchewan with Rev. Fr. Jeffrey Stephaniuk officiating. The Funeral Liturgy was celebrated on Friday, July 3, 2026 from St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church, Kelliher, Saskatchewan with Rev. Fr. Jeffrey Stephaniuk as Celebrant. The cross bearer was Seth Conn and the Epistle reader was Mathew Owerko. The urn bearers were Scott Evans and Nikolas Kirton.
