Obituary of Miriam Burback
It is with profound sorrow for her passing, but with great joy for the life she lived, we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Great Great Grandmother, Miriam Elaine Burback (nee Gross).
Miriam was born to Fred Gross and Amelia (Molly) Gross (nee Ruff) on November 19th, 1935, the third of 5 children. She was born and raised on the farm in the Stornaway area, where she attended school until Gr 8, and upon the death of her father helped her Mom and brothers on the farm.
In 1955 at the age of 19 she married Richard Arnold Burback, who was the love of her life. Together they had 6 children-Glen, Karen, Byron, Laurel, Kelly and Janine. They made their home for the first several yrs in Rhein, Sk. where Richard was the school principal. In 1965 the family moved with 4 children to Saskatoon for a year so Richard could advance his teaching education at the U. of S. It was there that Kelly was born. Upon completion of Richard's degree, the family moved to Yorkton, where they immediately began planning and building Miriam's dream home, complete with a crystal chandelier. She loved that home, and resided in it for 58 yrs, a few months before her passing. It was shortly after the house was built that Janine was born, making the family complete.
Miriam was for the most part a stay-at-home wife and Mother, but over the years, along with raising her own 6 children, started an unofficial daycare. People would call her asking if she'd mind watching their kids while they were at work. She never turned anyone away. When Richard retired from teaching and opened a Subway Restaurant, they enjoyed several years traveling to many Subway conventions, and also had a time share in Vegas that they spent a month at every year.
When Richard passed away in 2005, Miriam was determined to stay in the house she loved, and with the help of her sons she was able to do that almost right up until her passing.
Her passions later in life were her flower garden, her cats, and knitting. So many afghans, baby clothes....anyone she knew who had a baby received a sweater set, and later in life she began knitting toques for the newborn babies in the maternity ward at the hospital. I think if you took every piece she knitted in her lifetime and stitched them all together it would build a path to Heaven, and that is the path that has now taken her home.
Miriam was predeceased by her parents Fred and Molly Gross, brothers Eric Gross Alvin Gross, sisters Lillian Nesbitt and Ruth Vaughn, her beloved husband Richard, sons Glen Burback and Byron Burback, family dog Starsky, and her precious cats Stimpy, Dusty, Blondie and Daisy.
Left behind to mourn her passing, but cherish her memory, are her children Karen Burback (Gord), Laurel Fatteicher (Harley), Kelly Burback (Jackie) and Janine Dumka (Mike). Grandchildren Kristy Smith and Stacey Smith, Curtis Fatteicher and Craig Fatteicher, Kiana Dumka and Kaiden Dumka, Alaura Collier (Jonathan) Derek Burback and Steven Burback, Tyler Burback and Rylan Burback. Great grandchildren Sierra Smith, Arihanna Smith, Braydon Boss, London and Elijah Soonias, Cole Fatteicher and Emily Fattecher, Heidi Collier and Khalid Abushar, Elise Wenger and Great Great Granddaughter Kaia Anderson. Daughters in law Lynda Burback and Shelly Burback, sister-in-law Mary Gross, sisters in law Marlene Rogers (Wally), brother-in-law Dwayne Burback (Lynda), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Bailey’s Funeral and Cremation Care.
