Sympathies to Fr Vlad’s family. I’ve known him since 1980, when I arrived at Redeemer House in Toronto. He was our librarian. I learned from messages of sympathy that some called him Walter; and that he once worked for an electrician supply store. You can say he’s gone from putting in the lights to singing “Glory to you, who have shown us the light!” One year, about 1984, he helped me when I had to translate an article into Ukrainian from English for a student group I was with. When he was taking an ecumenical chaplaincy program I remember him saying how much it meant to him to be Catholic. As a priest I am now living with my family in the rectory in Wynyard Saskatchewan where he himself lived for several years and work with people who once knew him. His funeral coincided on July 15 with the feast-day of St Volodymyr. A prayer on that theme applies to Fr Vlad (Walter) as well: “he loved the One who love him.”
