Obituary of Don Bruner
It is with deep love and sadness that the family of Donald Allan Bruner announces his passing on July 20, 2026, at the age of 80. Don is predeceased by his parents, Freya McFall (nee: Tobiasson) and Alvin (Dude) Bruner; brother, Bruce and nephew, David Bruner.
Don will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Margaret (nee Koptie); his daughters, Lana Bruner; Shelly and her husband, Chip Kinney and his cherished grandchildren, Edward and Sarah Kinney; sister-in-law, Doris Bruner. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him as he had an abundance of family and friends. He valued a good pop-over visit.
Don dedicated over 30 years of service working at IMC potash mine in Esterhazy, where he was respected for his steady commitment, strong work ethic, and dependable nature. Beyond his career, he gave generously of his time and talents to his community, serving many roles in Saltcoats as town councillor, Minor Sports treasurer, volunteer fire fighter and later, accountant for the Sunrise Health Foundation.
An avid curler, Don found joy in the sport, the friendships; and times of great laughter and comradery. He was also deeply dedicated to coaching fastball for his daughters and for many others; creating memories on and off the field that reflected his love, patience, and steady encouragement. He found joy in friends, travel, sports and family. His kindness, quiet strength, and devotion to family and community leave a lasting legacy.
Don’s family is grateful for the love and support shown during this difficult time. As with a condition that doesn’t have a great outcome, he challenged the odds and lived his life as full as he possibly could. His life was extended by the compassion and love shown by health care clinicians, nurses and care givers and we extend a heartfelt thank you to them. He will be remembered with affection, gratitude, and love.
A Memorial Service was held on Friday, July 24, 2026, from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. The service was officiated by certified celebrant Crystal Bailey, soloist Amanda Buhler performed 'Amazing Grace'. Other musical selections were ‘You are Mine’ – Walkers to Heaven and ‘Tears in Heaven’ – Eric Clapton. Scriptures were read by Edward Kinney and Sarah Kinney. Tributes and words of remembrance were shared by Shelly Kinney, Lana Bruner, and David Kerr. After the service, a memorial luncheon took place at the Family Centre, then the interment with friends and family took place in Saltcoats Town Cemetery. CLICK HERE to access the Live-Stream.
