Obituary of Vera Kuzek

The family of Vera May Kuzek (nee Ganton), beloved wife of Steve Kuzek of Melville, sadly announce her passing at St. Paul Lutheran Home on Saturday, August 22, 2026. Vera was 88 years of age. 

Vera was born on October 27, 1937 to William and Christina Ganton in Melfort, Saskatchewan. She spent her early years growing up on a farm and began school in the Silver Stream district. She took her grade 9 by correspondence and grade 10 and 11 in Tisdale. Next, she took a Commercial course designation in Nipawin. Her teacher in Nipawin successfully applied to Saskatchewan Government Insurance on her behalf and Vera moved to Regina in 1957 and began work in the steno pool for Saskatchewan Government Insurance where she met the love of her life Steve Kuzek. Steve and Vera were married on July 17, 1959. They moved around for Steve’s work and the family eventually settled in Melville, Saskatchewan in 1971. Vera was a stay-at-home mother and wife until 1983 when Steve persuaded her to come and work as a travel agent for Melville Agencies where she worked until her retirement in 1997.

Vera enjoyed sewing, needlework, baking, travelling and loved spending time with all her family and especially her grandchildren. Retirement was enjoyed spending winters in Weslaco, Texas and summers at Crooked Lake, Saskatchewan.

Vera will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 67 years, Steve Kuzek, and 3 children, daughter Shelley (Tom) and children Rhys (Kathryn) and Quinn (Jessica), son Brent (Joan) and children Justin and Regan (Katelyn), and great grandchildren Mackenzie and Kolter, and son Jason (Susan); 2 sisters and 1 brother Karen (Hugh) Perkins, Peggy Ganton and Ross (Sonja) Ganton and 1 sister-in-law Pat Kuzek. She is predeceased by her parents, William and Christina Ganton, brothers Robert Ganton and Floyd Ganton, in-laws Sam and Mary Kuzek, brothers and sisters in law, George (Sophie) Kuzek, Bill (Mary) Kuzek, Peter Kuzek, Rose (Andrew) Kautzman, Doris (Bill)Lukinuk, Eva Johnson and Elsie Harkness.
