Obituary of Evelyn Yacyshyn

YACYSHYN – It is with deep sadness that the family of Evelyn Yacyshyn announces her peaceful passing on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the age of 94. Evelyn was born in the district of Swan Plain on October 1, 1931, to Mike and Anne Werbowesky, and grew up on the farm with her six siblings. Evelyn was deeply proud of her Ukrainian heritage, which remained an important part of her identity throughout her life.  Raised speaking both English and Ukrainian at home, she treasured traditions that connected generations of her family.  Ukrainian food, dance and music held a special place in her heart. Evelyn loved cooking for her family, gardening and crocheting thoughtful handmade items for family and friends, and doing puzzles.  She especially enjoyed playing cards and could often be counted on to win more than her fair share of games. She also enjoyed many evenings listening to Victor play the violin.  She was always willing to lend a hand generously giving her time to help at church and hall gatherings. Above all, Evelyn cherished her family and the time spent together.  She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Victor; her sons Gerald (Gerda), Darold (Lori) and Gord (Robin); her grandchildren Rachel (Luc), Nicole, Trista (Keira), Justin (Kim), Amanda (Justin), Clayton and Brennan; her great-grandchildren Enzo, Nico, Rocco, Cade, Maya, Nathan and Ada; and her sister Minnie (Bill). Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, Mike and Anne Werbowesky; her brothers Peter, Bill and Ernie; and her sisters Mary and Pauline. The family would also like to thank the staff at Country Meadows at the nursing home for their kindness and wonderful care of Evelyn in the last few years and the staff at Yorkton Regional Health Centre for their compassionate care in her last few days. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with the Very Reverend Archpriest Roman Kocur officiating. Jason Kopan served as cantor. Amanda Procyshen served as cross bearer. The interment followed in the Garden of Gethsemane, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Clayton Hotsko, Brennan Hotsko, Justin Procyshen, Trista Robinson, Kevin Kosheluk, and Kelsey Kosheluk serving as casket bearers. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Evelyn may be made to the Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church as gifts of remembrance.
