Obituary of Nick Koroll

KOROLL - Mr. Nick Koroll, beloved husband of Sophia Koroll of Yorkton, fomerly of Theodore, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2005 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 86 years of age. Nick Koroll was born on March 15, 1918 on the family farm in the Westbrook district; the son of Kozma and Anne (nee Kucey) Koroll. Nick attended the Westbrook School. He joined the army in 1939 where he served briefly on the reserve at Tofino BC, prior to returning home to care for his mother and operate the family farm. On May 3rd, 1957 Nick was united in marriage with Sophia Serby (nee Lastiwka) at Sheho. Together, they resided in the town of Theodore and then moved to the farm in 1964, which is currently owned and operated by his son Larry. Nick enjoyed curling, fishing, dancing and visiting with friends, neighbors and relatives. His favourite pastime was playing cards. Nick was a mixed farmer, but his passion was producing crops of wheat, oats and barley. Fall and the harvest were Nick's favourite time of the year. Combining was his greatest love on the farm. Nick served for several years on the Theodore Snow Plow Club and on the Westbrook Church and Hall Committees. You would often find him volunteering his time helping others. Nick enjoyed the visits of relatives and neighbours and dearly loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchild. On February 25th, 2005 Nick was admitted suddenly to the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, where he remained until his passing. Predeceased by his parents, brothers Matt, Fred, and John; half brothers Bill, George and Fred; sisters Helen Paley and Mary Minken and many brothers and sisters-in-law. Nick leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 47 years, Sophia; sons: Clay Serby (Trish Batten) of Yorkton, Larry (Dianne) Koroll of Yorkton; daughters: Gloria (Eldon) Berglind of Quesnel BC, Annette (Allan) Hutzul of Regina; seven grandchildren: Kirsty (Des) Leavens and Stacey Serby, Bryan Koroll, Crystal and Blayne Berglind, Mandy (Kynan) Bugiera and Soraya Hutzul; great grandchild Kayden Bugiera; brother-in-law Nick (Bernice) Lastiwka; sisters-in-law Dora Lastiwka, Elizabeth (Len) Van Den Busche, Dora Koroll and Pauline Koroll; numerous nieces, nephews and his many other relatives and friends. Prayer services were held on Wednesday evening, March 9, 2005 from Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton. The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, March 10, 2005 from Holy Transfiguration Church with Rev. Father Roman Kocur officiating. The cantor was William Kozey. Bannerbearers were Nick Hutzul and Bill Raddysh, the crossbearer was Nick Lastiwka. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Bryan Koroll, Kynan Bugiera, Terry Lastiwka, Des Leavens, David Lutz and Raymond Howe serving as the casketbearers. The memorial luncheon followed at the Ukrainian Orthodox Auditorium. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home. Interment Details Yorkton City Cemetery
