HENLISIA - Mrs. Lucy Henlisia, beloved wife of Henry Henlisia, died peacefully at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on November 1st, 2013. She was 87 years of age. Lucy was the first child of Paul and Annie (nee Fullawka) Wolkowski born on the family farm near Tiny, Saskatchewan in February 10th, 1926. She had many memories growing up on the farm, having the benefit of being close to her grandfather Karol. Her favourite relatives were Uncle Walter and Aunt Stella, which she would she often and have good times together. In 1952 she left the farm for good and went to Winnipeg to find work, but later came back to Saskatchewan and commenced employment with Eaton's in Yorkton. It was in Yorkton that she met Henry Henlisia and eventually married on May 2, 1954. They were blessed with two sons, David and Greg. Besides raising a family, Lucy had many interests, some of which included gardening, canning and cooking. Her cooking skills were enjoyed by many family and friends and many times without using a recipe. Lucy was a devout member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, specifically the UCWL where she served as treasurer. Both Henry and Lucy supported various church functions and events. During her later years, Lucy returned to her Roman Catholic origins by attending St. Gerard's Parish in Yorkton. Lucy leaves to cherish her memory her husband Henry; sons David Henlisia and children Marina, Nicholas, Dylan and Tatiana, Greg (Lanna) Henlisia and children Amanda, Tyler, Erik and Megan; sisters Helen Ratushniak and Elizabeth (Nestor) Trach; brothers Bernard Wolkowski and Gerald (Marjorie) Wolkowski; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Annie; a sister in infancy Josephine Wolkowski; daughter-in-law Cheryl Henlisia; grandson Connor Henlisia; brother-in-law Joseph Ratushniak and sister-in-law Carol Wolkowski. A Prayer Vigil was held on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton. Serving as a cantor was Mary Ann Scherr and as reader was Sheila Ratushniak. The pianist, Diana Hornung led in the singing of the hymns, "Amazing Grace", "Psalm 121", and "Precious Lord, Take My Hand". Reflections of Lucy's life were shared by Nestor Trach. The Funeral Mass was held on Friday, November 8, 2013 at St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Francis Hengen as the Celebrant. The cantor was Francis Deters and the cross bearers were Marina & Nicholas Henlisia. The pianist, Lorraine Lysak led St. Gerard's choir in the singing of the hymns, "Be Not Afraid", "Psalm 23", "Like A Shepherd", "Peace is Flowing Like a River", "Song of The Angels" and "How Great Thou Art". The readings were given by Val Stacyszyn and Audrey Trach. The intentions were led by Carol Prosser. Megan Henlisia and Tatiana Henlisia were the Gift Bearers. The interment took place in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Tyler Henlisia, Erik Mess, Dylan Henlisia, Darrell Wolkowski, Blair Ratushniak, Les Trach, Colby Wolkowski and Dereck Wolkowski serving as the casket bearers. Memorials in memory of Lucy may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
