HUNKO - Mrs. Vicky Hunko of Yorkton, beloved wife of John entered eternal life on October 10, 2013 at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home. She was 87 years of age. Victoria Hunko was born on March 9, 1926 on the family farm in Benito, Manitoba. She was the second daughter of Harry and Lena (Kurylowich) Kluk. Vicky loved school and rode the van into Benito to attend. She left the farm early to begin her life that would be filled with many adventures. She always said some of her most memorable times were when she worked out in B.C., where she worked for a number of years. Upon returning, she began work as a nurse's aide at the Union Hospital in Canora. It was here that she met the love of her life, John at a dance at Crystal Lake. They were happily married on July 24, 1948 and were together for over 65 years. They lived for several years in Canora, before moving to Yorkton in 1950 where they were blessed with three children, Bob, Catherine and Greg. A short residence in Prince Albert brought new friends into their lives. Upon returning to Yorkton she worked tirelessly raising the family, working at Church and tending to her garden and flowers. She canned and baked with family and friends in mind. She loved singing in the choir, working with the UCWLC volunteering many hours at the Cultural Centre and stood graciously beside John at many Knights of Columbus and church events. She enjoyed many trips to visit family and friends from the west coast to the east coast of Canada and north to Churchill and south to California and Colorado stopping at many points along the way. She entered the nursing home for the last 10 years of her life where John dedicated his life in making it comfortable for her. It was in these 10 years that she prayed endlessly for family and friends and interceded for their health and well being. Her legacy is one of devotion to God and faith, her husband, family and friends. She was welcomed at the gates of heaven by her parents, Harry and Lena Kluk, Alex and Sadie Hunko, sister Mary Malayney and many friends. A loving wife to husband John, she was a wonderful mother to sons, Bob (Valerie) of Regina, Greg (Wendy) of Regina and daughter Catherine (John) of Littleton, Colorado. She was a devoted grandmother to Lindsay Edmonton, David (Janice) Calgary, Laura (Jeremy Gaboury) Regina, Danielle and Brendan Regina, Ashley Cronk and Aaron Cronk Regina, Jennifer Shaw Littleton, CO and Mike (Whitnea) Shaw Lakewood, CO.
