RIEGER - Viola Rieger, beloved wife of Ron of Yorkton, passed away suddenly on on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at her home in Yorkton. She was 70 years of age. Viola Rieger was born on September 24, 1943 in the Buchanan district of Saskatchewan; a daughter of Tom and Dora (nee Gawrelitza) Yarmichuk. Viola was raised on the family farm and attended the Oleksin School. At age 17 she was united in marriage to George Stratichuk. It was during her early years that Viola took an interest in cosmetology and soon began to train as a hairdresser. She eventually opened up a beauty salon in Theodore, and successfully operated the 'Shear Salon' for a number of years. On June 11, 1994 Viola was united in marriage to Ron Rieger at Yorkton. Following their marriage the couple resided in Yorkton for a year or so before moving to take up residence in Regina. There, Viola recognized a need for a proper wig boutique and soon the business 'Renattas' was established as a wig boutique and beauty salon. In later years Viola eventually sold her business and before her retirement worked in the retail clothing industry, mostly for the Tabi Clothing Co. After their retirement, Viola and Ron moved back to Yorkton in 2012, where they have since resided. Predeceased by her parents, Tom and Dora; a brother Gerald in infancy; and by her son Sheldon in 1986. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Ron of Yorkton; son Clayton Stratichuk (Jackie) of Yorkton and their daughter Haley; daughter Cheryl (Ken) Kaban of the Tuffnell district, and their children Melissa (Kelly) Grona, and Kyle (fiance' Rajani); Ron's children: Joe (Stacey) Rieger of Regina & daughter Brittany (and Stacey's sons, Zack & Brett); Cindy (Clarence) Bachman of Strathmore, AB & son Dustyn, daughter Jennifer (and her daughter Amara) as well as numerous other relatives and friends. The prayer services were held on Friday evening, October 11, 2013 and the funeral service was held on Saturday morning, October 12, 2013, all from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Very Rev. Father Mel Slashinsky of Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church officiated. Cantor, William Kozey, assisted by members of Holy Transfiguration Parish Choir led in the singing of the responses. Pallbearers were Clayton, Cheryl, Kenny, Kyle, Kelly & Joe. A memorial luncheon followed in the Family Centre Reception Room. Viola was laid to rest in the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Parish Cemetery at Sheho on Sunday, October 13, 2013. Memorials may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation as tokens of remembrance.
