In 1942, before his 18th birthday, Carl jumped on his bike, road to Yorkton, bought a $1.00 bus ticket to Regina and enlisted in the RCAF. He was trained as an air gunner and with his squadron was stationed in numerous West Coast locations on look out for enemy aircraft. It was during his air force time in Vancouver that he met his first wife Margaret Bauer. Carl and Margaret were married in 1946 and began grain and cattle farming at Jedburgh. Their daughter Darleen was born in 1956. In 1965 Carl moved to Kamloops B.C. and began a 23 year career with the CNR. He was intensely proud of his years as a "railroader", but never severed his ties to the land and returned to Sask. every year for the harvest. Carl married his second wife Raymonde Gauthier in 1979 and his life became enriched by the friendship and caring hearts of Raymonde's six children. In 1992 Carl and Raymonde returned to High Prairie Alberta where they lived until Raymonde's passing in 1998. At that time Carl decided to move back "home" to Sask. and took residence in Theodore, close to the farm and his brother Emil. Together they drove the fields making sure that everything was as it should be. Dad loved hockey, he was a member of the Jedburgh Eagles hockey team in 1956 when they won the championship. He played ball and had been an avid curler. He was a superb dancer, he loved the land, harvest time and supper on the field and he deeply loved his family with a special place in his heart for grandson dale. Carl was predeceased by his infant son Randy, his wife Raymonde, his parents, sister Francis and brother Emil. He leaves to cherish his memory his sister Florence, daughter Darleen(Larry), grandson Dale, extended family Roland(Gail) Shauna, Jody, Evangeline(Larry), Steven, Serena, Emily(Bernie) Darren, Roger(Cyndy) Lindsey, Adrianne, Michelle, Jessica, Gerald(Heather)Grant, Natalie, as well as great children, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
