BOYCHUK - Verna Alvena Boychuk (nee Chomyshen) was born April 13, 1933 near Grandview M.B. Verna was the daughter of Lena Yacyshyn. Verna attended Cedric School until finishing grade 8. After school, Verna continued her education with correspondence classes. On November 2, 1952 Verna was united in marriage to Bill Boychuk. Bill and Verna moved to Yorkton where she was employed at the Bus Depot, Propp's Groceteria, Woolworths and later for Safeway. In 1967 the couple moved to Edmonton where Verna continued her career with Safeway. Verna and Bill remained in Edmonton until her retirement in 1989. In December of that year they moved back to Yorkton so they could be close to family. During her life Verna genuinely enjoyed visiting with family and friends and had a great love for her many nieces and nephews. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading history novels, crocheting, walking with her neighbor, going for coffee to A&W and Dairy Queen with Bill and friends, and of course she never failed to watch the evening news. She loved baseball and was an avid Toronto Blue Jays fan. On Wednesday September 18, 2013 at the age of 80, Verna entered Eternal Rest at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre with family by her side. Verna was predeceased by her loving husband Bill of 56 years of marriage; mother Lena Yacyshyn; sisters Lorraine Tokarchuk and Ann Derkach and brother Alex Derkach. She leaves to cherish her memory her sisters: Rose (Ernie) Shupena of Yorkton, Mary (Ted) Prokopchuk of Rhein, Irene (David) Rathbone of Port Moody BC; brothers: Stan (Sylvia) Yacyshyn of Abbotsford BC, Andy (Elaine) Yacyshyn of Mackenzie BC; numerous nieces, nephews, God children, and her many other relatives and friends. Prayer services were held on Sunday evening, September 22, 2013 from St. Mark's Orthodox Church in Yorkton with Rev. Father Rodion Luciuk and Rev. Father Andrew Piasta officiating. Cantors, Bob Rohr & Gloria Wasylyniuk led in the responses. Niece, Linda Boychuk gave a tribute on behalf of the family.The funeral service was held on Monday morning, September 23, 2013 from St. Mark's Orthodox Church with Rev. Father Rodion Luciuk, Celebrant. Cantor, Zenovia Duch led members of the Parish Choir and the congregation in the singing of the responses. The crossbearer was Dale Prokopchuk. The interment took place in St. Mary's Parish (Boychuk) Cemetery, north of Rhein with Kelly and Garry Boychuk, Dale Heshka, Doug & Raymond Shupena and Tom Bohn serving as the casketbearers.
