Obituary of Helen Graff

GRAFF - Helen (nee Sampert) Graff of St. Paul Lutheran Home, Melville, Saskatchewan widow of the late Ernest Graff passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at St. Paul Lutheran Home at the age of 92 years. Helen was born January 28,1921, Vegreville Alta. She was the second oldest daughter of Edward and Elsie (Kunish) Sampert. Helen's faith in the Lord was very strong. She was baptized May 29,1921 at her parent's home and was confirmed on June 9,1935 at Zion Lutheran Church in Grayson, Sask. In 1926 Helen's family moved to B.C. where Helen began her education at Bridgeport School Richmond B.C. In 1931 Helen received an Honor Roll for First Rank in Punctuality and Regularity. Helen was not shy of working for at the age of nine she would pick berries in the summer earning money to buy her clothing and text books for the next school terms. Her family moved back to Grayson, Sask. in 1933 to a farm where she helped her dad in the field; threshing, hauling sheaves and other kinds of farm work that was needed. Helen completed her last two years of school at Hauer School in Grayson, Sask. On November 2,1950 Helen was united in marriage to Ernest Graff at Christ Lutheran Church in Neudorf, Sask. They began their married life on the farm with Helen working beside Ernie milking cows, raising chickens, turkeys, geese, pigs and working in the field. Helen loved baking, cooking, gardening, growing flowers, sewing and crocheting. She was predeceased by her Husband Ernie in 2001; her Dad Edward, Mother Elsie, Sister Antonia (Edwald), Brothers-in-law Fred and Sam, Niece Lydia, Aunt Hilda. She leaves to mourn Her Sisters Edith, Dorothy, Elsie (Wes); Sister-in-law Fern Ramsey as well as Nieces and Nephews. Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. from Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Melville, Saskatchewan with Pastor Rik Cherland Officiating. Organist Kim Cook led in the hymns "God Be With You","O Take My Hand Dear Father" and "Abide With Me". Robert Schultz gave the eulogy. Honorary bearers were Linda Walkington and Cindy Almasi as well they gave tributes on Helen's life. The interment followed at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with David Graff, Bruce Graff, Garnet Graff, Robert Almasi, Dustin Almasi and Michael Almasi as the casketbearers. Arrangements were by Bailey's Funeral Home, Melville.
