Jody Donald Wizniak
Loving Father, Grandfather, Husband, and Friend
Jody Donald Wizniak passed peacefully October 30, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
Jody was born December 15, 1966 in Hudson Bay Saskatchewan to Don and Marie Wizniak (nee Campbell). Jody loved growing up in Hudson Bay, and it's here that his love of hunting, fishing, and all things “outdoors” began. Hudson Bay is also where Jody began playing hockey; a sport that eventually took him to Flin Flon to play in the SJHL, where he would meet the love of his life Brenda McAree.
Brenda and Jody were married in Flin Flon on July 7, 1990. They were blessed with three children; Brandon, Holly and Josh.
Knowing the life of a railroader was busy but would provide a comfortable life for his family, Jody decided to follow in his father Don's footsteps and began a career with CN in 1988. Jody continued working for CN until his “final ride” on December 24, 2021.
When Jody wasn't working he continued to enjoy the hobbies of his youth – hunting, fishing, and playing hockey on numerous teams. He also spent 17 years running Wizniak Skate Sharpening and became Yorkton's “go to” guy; often working all night on the railway, and then getting home and staying up for hours sharpening skates.
Jody loved spending time with his friends and family. From fishing trips to Cormorant Lake, weekend hockey tournaments “with the guys”, or spending time with his grandchildren on the boat, Jody's smile was the brightest when he was with the people he loved.
Jody was diagnosed with ALS on December 21, 2020 shortly after moving to the lake with Brenda to prepare for retirement. While this changed the plan they had for the future, ALS taught Jody and Brenda to cherish each moment together, to love their family deeply, and to make memories while they were able. Jody and Brenda traveled while Jody still could, and when travel became difficult, they made many memories with friends and family at Pelican Landing at Lake of the Prairies. The entire Wizniak family will forever be grateful for the love and friendship they received from friends, family and Jody's caregivers Lana, Brittany and Heather during this time.
Jody was predeceased by his parents, Don and Marie; and by his father and mother-in-law, John and Janet McAree. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Brenda; their three children Brandon (Jasmine) Wizniak, Holly Wizniak (Joel Warkentin), and Josh (Jessica) Wizniak; three grandchildren Ezra, Oliver and Palmer Wizniak; his brother Lonnie (Juanita) Wizniak, sister Kim (Tim) Rucks and their families and many, many friends and loved ones.
Jody will be especially remembered for his perseverance and positivity, not only throughout his journey with ALS, but throughout his entire life.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 8, 2024 at 1:00pm at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ALS Saskatchewan.
