Harvey Byblow

Obituary of Harvey Byblow

Harvey Stephen Byblow, 82, of Ituna, Saskatchewan passed away on December 7, 2024, after a long battle with Asbestosis.

Harvey was born on July 31, 1942, to Steve and Anne Byblow in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. The eldest of ten children, Harvey’s youth was split between farmwork and school. After graduating from high school in Ituna, Saskatchewan, Harvey worked several jobs. His entrepreneurial spirit emerged when he owned a general store in small-town Saskatchewan. Now married, in 1971 Harvey headed north with his young family where he, his first wife Eileen, and two young children (Leslie and Leigh) settled in the small mining town of Faro, Yukon. It was in Faro where they would raise their family, and Harvey would utilize his widely amassed, and highly sought after, set of trade skills in various businesses.

After a few life changes, Harvey met and married Sally Jenner. The two continued to live in Faro, then built a beautiful home in Lake Laberge, Yukon, and finally settled back in Ituna, where they would spend their retirement years.

Harvey’s career path was wide and varied; farmer, store owner, warehouse manager, certified plumber and steamer, repair and maintenance specialist, motel owner/operator, long haul trucker, with many others peppered in between.

Harvey was always a very active member of his communities where he was proud to be a volunteer Fire Fighter and EMT, coroner, town councilor, black belt judo martial artist, and hockey player and referee, among much more. Harvey was well known for his gentle disposition, live-and-let-live attitude, and grand smile. He will be dearly missed.

Harvey is predeceased by his loving wife, Sally; his parents, Steve and Anne Byblow and his brother, Maurice Byblow.  He is survived by his daughter, Leslie Manz; his son, Leigh (Corinne) Byblow; three grandchildren, Noah and Nicole Manz and Madeleine Byblow; siblings, Stan (Christine) Byblow, Hope Sutton, Julie Brooks, Betty (Phil Rowat) Byblow, Bob (Joanne) Byblow, Tom (Florence) Byblow, Sylvia Dmyterko and Terry (Iris) Byblow; Sister in Law, Janet Pauch.

The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, August 2, 2025 from St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Whitesand, Saskatchewan with Rev. Father Ivan Simko officiating. Responses were led by Colette Karapita. The cross bearer was Nicole Manz and the Epistle reader was Madeleine Byblow. The interment followed in the St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Parish Cemetery with Noah Manz serving as urn bearer.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Canadian Lung Association.
