Martin, Pat & family, I wanted to reach out and let you know I was saddened to hear of your moms passing. Yes, she lived a long life but it doesn't make it any easier to accept that she is no longer with us. When I think of of Aunty Nettie I remember her distinct voice and walking in the farm house door to a big hug and the smell of freshly baked bread and cream on the counter ready to make beet rolls. I know how special she was to mom - I remember listening to mom as she sat at the kitchen table chatting and giggling with her sister over the phone. Like mom, dad really enjoyed and was entertained by her during their phone visits. He was amazed at her strength, spirit and always a good chuckle when she shared stories about the card games and activities she participated in at her assisted living home. You always made time for my mom and dad and not just because they were family - it was a truly meaningful friendship that brought them a lot of joy.
