Obituary of Frances Ness

Frances passed away on Friday, January 4, 2019 at the age of 92. Predeceased by her father Watson, mother Ruth, husband Marvin, brother Howard and brother William, sister-in-laws Hilda, Lou and Ruby, nephew Rodney. Frances is survived by her brother, Gregg Hodgson, and many nieces and nephews. Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Frances grew up in Humboldt, Saskatchewan and married Marvin Ness in 1962. Frances went on to pursue many different careers in her lifetime. She worked for Trans Canada Airlines and the Bank of Nova Scotia until she decided to venture out on her own and became the owner of four different independent stores in Saskatoon. Fran's Gift store was well known for unique gifts as well as custom ing and invitations. She also taught the art of cake decorating and chocolate making in the evenings. She worked for 45 years in these businesses, retiring in 2007. During her working days Frances was a member of Soroptimist International, a global volunteer organization that improves the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. She was also an active member of the Eastern Star. Frances and Marvin enjoyed many trips together. They visited Florida, Bahamas, Hawaii, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. These trips were often combined with buying trips for items for her store. She enjoyed golfing, spending time at Crooked Lake with family, and many Christmases in Yorkton and Grenfell with family. In December, 2016 Frances moved from Saskatoon to The Bentley retirement home in Yorkton. When she required more care she moved to Yorkton Crossings where she lived until her passing in January 2019.
