Obituary of Lorraine Bender

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Lorraine Bender of Theodore on October 6, 2018 at the age of 92. Lorraine Ruby Bender was born on July 11, 1926 in the Duff District of Saskatchewan, to Peter and Catherine (nee Wirth) Tressel. The family later moved to the Neudorf district where Lorraine attended Baber School and helped her parents on the farm. Lorraine met the love of her life Robert Bender and on June 16, 1944 Lorraine and Robert were married in Neudorf. The couple farmed in the Neudorf district where Lorraine took an active part in the farming operation. They were blessed with five children - Robert, Garry, Diane, Larry and Donna. In 1983 Lorraine and Robert moved into Neudorf. In April 2011 Lorraine moved to the Private Care Home in Balcarres and in August 2011 was transferred to the Balcarres Integrated Care Centre. When Larry moved to Moose Jaw in 2014 Lorraine was moved to the Theodore Health Centre to be closer to her daughter, Donna. Lorraine was a very talented seamstress and was asked to teach sewing classes through Community College. Lorraine also kept busy cooking, gardening, knitting, crocheting, ceramics, upholstery, reading, watching TV, sewing cabbage patch dolls, playing cards, crib, bingo and shuffle board. Lorraine was an active member of the Christ Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School for many years; she sang in the church choir as well belonging to the LCW serving lunch at different functions and making quilts for the less fortunate. Lorraine's favorite was having family gatherings and spoiling her grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory, Lorraine is survived by her son, Larry Bender (Bev Jacobs) of Moose Jaw and children Chad, Amanda (Charlie Milne) and Michael; her daughter, Donna (Elwood) Turner of Theodore and their children, Melissa (Clayton Millar) and Shawna (Julian Jodok); daughter-in-law, Sharon Bender of Grenfell and her children, Kristin and Nathan (Andrea Charanduk); great granddaughter Breea (Amanda & Charlie); brother, Peter Tressel and sisters, Vivian Stalzer and Joyce Witt; sister-in-laws, Lois Tressel and Martha Bender and brother-in-law, Les Bender; and daughter-in-law, Helen Bender as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Lorraine was predeceased by her husband, Robert; parents, Peter and Catherine Tressel; a daughter Diane in infancy; sons Robert and Garry Bender; and her brother, Jack Tressel. Lorraine touched many lives; she will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by family and friends.
