Obituary of Milly "Milly" Church

CHURCH - Millicent 'Milly' Church passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 2nd 2018 at the age of 102 years. Milly was born on November 8, 1915 to Charlie & Kitty Bond on the family farm near Kelliher. She attended the Kelliher School through grades 1 - 11, then worked as a 'mother's helper' for family friends. During this time she met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Church. They were married on June 19, 1937 at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Kelliher. Milly and Bob shared a dream of developing a family farm and she supported Bob in every way. Milly enjoyed gardening and cooking. She loved playing cards and quilting. Milly was a most faithful member of Holy trinity Anglican Church in Kelliher. In 1951 a young couple arrived from Holland. Gerrit & Truus deGooijer and their family soon became part of Milly's and Bob's family. In Milly's later years they were a great support to her. In 1975 Milly and Bob retired in Kelliher where they spent five happy years. They enjoyed camping and travel. Following Bob's sudden death in 1980, Milly remained in her home before moving to Senior's Housing in Kelliher. In June 2014 Milly moved to Harrison Home in Ft. Qu'Appelle, and finally to Echo Lodge in 2017. Milly was predeceased by her husband Bob in 1980, and by her four sisters: Doris Bond, Lena Bond, Ruth Goodwin and Phyllis Davies. She is survived by her daughter Carole (David) Thompson of Kelliher; son Donald (Wendy) Church of Red Deer, AB; Grandchildren: Chris (Sheila) Thompson, Heather (Ted) Miazga, Duane (Paula) Thompson, Kate Thompson, Leigh (Reagan) Church, Trevor (Kelly) Church; Great grandchildren: David, Rachelle & Tyson, Cole, Shelagh, Holly & Adam, Mackenzie & Rowan, and Chloe. Also numerous other relatives and her many friends. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, October 9th 2018 from St. Paul's United Church in Kelliher with Deacon Luanne Hrywkiw of Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Yorkton officiating. Organist, Esta Sweatman led the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'Come, Ye Thankful People Come', 'In the Garden', and 'O Jesus, I Have Promised'. Tributes were given by Heather Miazga & Kate Thomspon, Maria Leonard read scripture. The interment followed in the Kelliher Memorial Gardens with Chris & Duane Thomspon, Bert & John deGooijer, and Trevor & Leigh Church serving as the casketbearers. The family of Milly wishes to thank all the family and friends near and far who took time to come and celebrate her life. Special thanks to Deacon Luanne, Esta Sweatman, Bailey's, the pallbearers, Maria, Heather & Kate for the tributes & scripture, Eddy Faye, Kelliher Legion Hall, and to the Kelliher & District Heritage Museum committee for the lovely lunch.
