Obituary of Hilda Streifel

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of HILDA STREIFEL (nee Novak). After a long and full life our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on October 13, 2022, at the age of 93. Mom, the 5th of 7 children was born on August 16, 1929, to Frank and Catherine Novak in a farm house north of Grayson. Hilda was predeceased by her husband Sam in 2014, parents Frank F. and Catherine Novak; father and mother-in-law Peter and Mary Streifel; sister Mary Gelowitz; brothers Wenzel, Frank and Jack Novak; and grandson Christopher Famulak. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children Larry (Leona) Streifel, Verna Famulak, Sandy (Kirby) Korchinski; and her nine grandchildren Aron (Lynell), Shawn (Carla), Krista, Bill (Jessica), Kim (Darren), Lee (Emma), Mike, (Nicole), Andy (Rebecca), Missy; and mom’s 11 great grandchildren. Also left to cherish Mom’s memory are her sisters Elizabeth Exner and Doris Flegel, as well as numerous relatives and friends. Mom was a person of great faith and her relationship with God was very important to her. Her days always began and ended with prayer. She believed that life was a gift from God, and even in the most difficult times she kept her faith and tried to live life with a smile and with a sense of humour. She was proud to be a CWL member for many years. Mom and dad were married in 1948. The first years of their married life were spent in Waldron. From 1955-1964 they farmed north of Grayson. Mom always said that life on the farm was her happiest time. Mom dedicated her life to helping people and took care of many foster children. In April of 1964 they moved to Melville where Mom was employed at St. Peter’s Hospital and St. Paul’s Lutheran Home. When her mother was diagnosed with leukemia, she quit her job to help care for her until she passed away. In 1973, Mom and Dad moved to Regina where Mom worked part time and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. When dad retired in 1989 they moved back to Grayson which made it possible for them to spend many years at the lake, fishing, tending to her garden and hosting family and friends. In 2011, they moved to Parkview Manor in Balcarres where she was once again closer to family and enjoyed spending time with new friends. Visits and phone calls from her grandchildren and great grandchildren always put a smile on her face. The family would like to express a special thank you to mom’s special friends at Parkview Manor and the wonderful home care staff in Balcarres that helped mom after dad passed away. Without their kindness and help mom would not have been able to stay in her suite as long as she did. In January 2021 Mom needed more care and moved to Hayes Haven in Indian Head where she felt she was given a new lease on life. She loved all the staff and residents, the activities and the special care she received. The family can’t thank you enough for making moms time at Hayes Haven so special. Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Indian Head Hospital for the exceptional care mom received during her final days. Service Details.
