Obituary of Donald Frank Ward

Donald "Don" Ward was born on November 28, 1954 to Frank and Margaret (nee Schlechter) Ward at Bissett, Manitoba. On October 22, 1977 Donald was united in marriage to Betty Frey at St. Augustine's Anglican Church in Saltcoats, Saskatchewan. This marriage was blessed with three children, Michael, Johanna and Jamie. In 1990 we bought a 1925 Eaton's home. We totally gutted the house to a shell and rebuilt it from the ground up. There was much blood, sweat and tears. The odd cus word or two. But after seven years and a lot of learning along the way we moved into our new home. Which was Donald's pride and joy. He loved to give people tours of the house. The lessons he learned on the house eventually started his career as a carpenter. Many people around have beautiful decks, new shingles or tin on their roofs. He even tinned a few hip roof barns. Donald also loved farming. He took pride in his cattle and could lead them anywhere with a pail of oats and give the bull a scratch behind the ears was he walked by. When Donald could not walk this spring he checked out the new calf crop on the quad. Driving school bus was also a great joy. He made a great connection with the kids riding behind him. He even went to Esterhazy one cold rainy evening to watch some of the boys play football. Donald spent the majority of his life living on the same quarter of land; we purchased the home quarter from his mom and dad in 1980. Donald enjoyed football a lot; weather it was high school football, the Riders or his grandson in junior football. He never got to see Shelby play football but he will be watching front and center on his heavenly seat. Donald loved life. He took great joy with his wife, children and grandchildren. He had a gift of "GAB" and could make a short story long … with every detail. Donald was involved with the Stockholm Legion, Bangor Heritage Club, Bangor Curling Club, Bangor Rec. Club and Sow's Belly Soup Group and a member of the Anglican Church in Melville. After three years of illness Donald entered his eternal rest with his precious family at his side on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at the young age of 63 years. Predeceased by his parents Frank and Margaret Ward; nephew, Clayton Ward; sister-in-law, Linda Ward; brothers-in-law, John Kormos, Joe Johnson and Tom Mottrom. Donald leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Betty; his son, Michael Ward; his daughter, Johanna Ward and her children, Donavan, Harmony, Hailey and Derrek; daughter, Jamie (Jason) Kunkel and their children, Shelby and Donovan; brothers, Doug (Grace) Ward and Dave (Adele) Ward; sisters, Donna Kormos and Barb (Barry) Stuckey; brothers-in-law, John Frey and Jim (Audrey) Frey; sisters-in-law, Judy Johnson (Walter Huges), Diane Mottrom, Rita (John) Spray and Beatrice (Elmer) Rosenthal; as well numerous, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
