Obituary of John Dennis Smart

John Smart was born on January 2, 1930 to Dennis and Mary (nee Balaberda) Smart in the Maxwelton district of Saskatchewan. John attended Maxwelton School and helped his parents on the farm. In 1966 John took over the family farm and that same year he was united in marriage to Marian Tkachuk on October 15, at Melfort, Saskatchewan. The couple continued to farm until 2002 and moved into Melville. John was a great help to Marian when she was doing her baking, he was the "dishwasher". John was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2004. His health started to decline and on May 7th he became a resident at the Langenburg Nursing Home. Six weeks later he moved to St. Paul Lutheran Home in Melville where he entered his eternal rest on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at the age of 88 years. In his younger years John played the violin and guitar in a band. He enjoyed playing cards, traveling and socializing with relatives, friends and neighbours. Predeceased by his parents, Mary and Dennis; brothers, Leonard and Willy; sister, Nellie Schick, nephew, Daniel and his in-laws. John leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Marian; son, Kevin and his children, Alissa, Dylan and Chelsea; daughter, Shelly (Blaine) Treleaven and their daughter Alexia; his sisters, Julia Krewda, Mary Herman, Mabel Sereda and Adeline (Bill) Maduck.
