Obituary of Rosie Uchacz

Rosie Uchacz was born on August 28, 1926 to Andrew and Mary (Kobialko) Kaczmar. She grew up on the family farm north of Ituna and attended Lunville School. She was the youngest of 6 children. While growing up Rosie, along with her sisters, spent time digging Seneca roots which were then made into medicine, in turn giving them some money to spend on clothes. In her early years, she moved to Regina where she worked as a cook at the King George Hotel. Later she moved back to Ituna and worked for the Diakow family. In the fall of 1951, Rosie began employment at the Ituna Union Hospital first on the floor, then as a cook's helper, and after as the main cook. On October 25, 1955, Rosie married Bill Uchacz and they farmed south east of Ituna on Bill's family farm. Rosie was a quiet woman. She worked hard along with Bill on the farm. Rosie did the usual farming chores: milking cows, raising chickens, hauling grain at harvest time, and helping with the farming operations. Their daughter Laura married Terry Berezny in 1988. In January 1990 when Bill and Rosie retired to their newly built home in Ituna, Terry and Laura took over the farm with help from Bill and Rosie. They enjoyed going on trips together with friends and with Laura in earlier years, which took them to various locations throughout Canada, the United States, Europe, as well as to Ukraine to meet Bill's family. There were tours to take and places to see whether it be by land, air, or sea. Rosie always complained she didn't want to go, but since Bill wanted to she always seemed to give in and go. Rosie had a strong faith in God. She was an active member of the Sacred Heart Parish and a dedicated member of the UCWLC , helping out whenever she could. When grandsons, Matthew and Michael came into the picture Baba Rosie enjoyed their company, often babysitting and attending to their favorite things to eat, etc. In Bill and Rosie's prime, their home was a host to many a family and friends gathering. Whether it was her grandsons, family, or friends, you never left her table hungry. Into her 70's, Rosie developed Alzehimer's disease as well as macular degeneration which took a toll on her mind and sight. As the diseases progressed, she was no longer able to do the many things she once enjoyed. In March 2008, she fell and broke her hip, requiring her to move to the Ituna Pioneer Lodge leaving Bill on his own in their home. Over time as her health failed, she still seemed comfortable enough, never asking for anything. We are forever grateful for the great care she received from the staff at the Lodge over the past 10 years. At the time of her passing, Rosie was known for being one of two people who had resided in the lodge for the longest period of time. After celebrating her 92nd birthday on August 28, 2018, her health took a turn for the worse and she passed away peacefully on the morning of September 2,, 2018. We can't help but chuckle because, being that harvest was never Rosie's favorite time of the year, God chose harvest time to call her home and leave this earth. Loved ones who entered eternal rest before Rosie were her husband Bill; her parents, Andrew and Mary; brothers Mike (Pauline), Nick (Olga), and John (Sophie); her sisters Julia (Charles) Sikorski and Annie(Tony) Nayko. She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter Laura (Terry) Berezny; grandsons Matthew and Michael (Samantha); brother-in-law Benny (Helen) Uchacz; sister-in-law, Jenny Sali, numerous nieces, nephews, and relatives. May she rest in peace. Vichnaya Pamyat!
