KOROL - Marlene Korol of Canora, beloved wife of Ben Korol entered eternal rest on October 3rd at the Canora Gateway Lodge following a lengthy courageous battle with cancer. Marlene was born on June 13, 1941 at Canora, Saskatchewan, a daughter of Harry and Bessie (nee Bordun) German. She was raised on the family farm in the Hamton district and attended Bridok School. Upon completing her education, Marlene sought employment at the Canora Union Hospital as an aide. In 1960 she was united in marriage to Bohdan Korol. The couple farmed in the Donwell district and were blessed with four children. Once the children left home, Marlene decided to enroll in some classes with the Kelsey Institute. She successfully completed her courses and obtained a job in the Heath Care profession. She found her job very rewarding and enjoyed working with people. Following her retirement she continued to provide assistance to a few seniors. Marlene became an avid baseball fan and cheered for the Blue Jays. Along with Ben they travelled to various cities to take in a number of games that the Jays played. She had a great admiration of country music and also took in several concerts that her favourite artists performed. Marlene learnt the art of braiding bread from her mother; Paskas for Easter and Kolachi for Christmas and Memorial Services. She continuously made sure her family all had a supply for these celebrations. Her hospitality could never go unnoticed as anyone who visited was always treated to food, be it her homemade baking or a full delicious meal. Her Church and her faith were the most important part of her life. Regularly Ben and she would travel to various parishes to attend Liturgy. She was a member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Mazeppa and later also in Canora. She was a life member of the Ladies Association and worked tirelessly to support it. Marlene leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband Ben; children Donna (Mel) McCormick of Canora, Brad (Nichole) Korol of Okotoks, AB, Lisa Korol of Regina and Darcy (Linda) Korol of Donwell; grandchildren Dylan (Rachelle), Kaitlyn (Kristian), and Bryce (Danielle) McCormick, Kyle (Caitie) and Justin (Katie) Korol and Ty Korol and a great granddaughter Amelia Korol. She is survived by two sisters Angie (Orville) Drobot and Louise (Miles) Brett and her brother Larry (Sandra) German; as well as several nieces and a nephew and many cousins and friends. Marlene was a kind and caring person who genuinely loved her family and always put others before herself. She led her life as an inspiration for her family.
