Obituary of Anne Muzyka

MUZYKA - Mrs. Anne Muzyka, beloved wife of the late Harry Muzyka, passed away peacefully at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on April 24, 2018. Anne was born on December 9, 1920 on the family farm in the Fenwood District to Andrew and Katherine (Baytalan) Sawchyn, who had both immigrated to Canada in the early 1900's. With the sudden passing of her mother at a young age, Anne was unable to complete her latter years of schooling. Being the oldest child, her dad needed her to stay home and help him with raising her 3 sisters and 4 brothers. On October 21, 1946 she married Harry Muzyka. They made their home in Ituna and bought a General Store there (which later became the 1st IGA in Saskatchewan). In the summer Harry and Anne loved spending time at their cottage in Katepwa, and in the winter they loved to travel and had toured many countries around the world, with either their friends or the IGA store group. Anne was an honorary member of the UCWL. She held the position as secretary for 15 years on the executive and all her meeting minutes were written in Ukrainian. Back in her days the entire meeting was held in Ukrainian only. She was an active member of the Sacred Heart Parish and sang with the Parish choir for over 50 years, as well as Xmas caroling for over 30 years. She spent many years volunteering at the Sacred Heart Hall for work bees which involved the making of perogies, cabbage rolls, pastas or whatever was needed. She also volunteered to help at all the weddings and funerals that were held in the hall, whenever she could. She was very devoted to her church and hall in the community. Anne loved to garden and took great pride in her yard. She loved birds and would put out the bird house every year, both at home and at the cottage. Her home was spotless and a radio was always playing. She loved her tea and never missed the news. Anne was always very organized in her life and was an exceptional cook. In the fall she looked forward to preserving the bounty from her garden. She was proud of her culture and enjoyed preparing her traditional meals at Xmas and Easter for the family to enjoy. You never left her table hungry or her home empty handed. After Harry passed away, she continued to work in the store and volunteer at the hall. She enjoyed the opportunity to still have these outings available to her, and was glad she was able to drive herself there. At 96 she finally had to quit driving, but it saddened her to have to give up her independence. We'll always remember her car plate letters and how they suited her perfectly (BTC - Babas Touring Car) Being strong willed & determined, Anne got to enjoy a long and healthy life. Always loving and giving throughout, never wanting anything in return, and always earned what she received through hard work. She dearly loved her family and looked forward to their visits, and was especially proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family deeply loved her, and she will be sadly missed by everyone whose lives she touched. Anne was predeceased by her husband Harry (1998), her parents Andrew (1970) and Katherine (1938), her brothers Leonard (1991), Andrew (1992) and Harry (2006), her sisters Mary (2004), Nellie (2004) and Grace (2010), and a great grandson DJ Ismond (2007). She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory, her son Gerald (Arlene) Muzyka of Yorkton, their daughters Angela (Tyler) Fetch of Stony Plain, Amanda (Kerry) Sawchuk and their children Kaylee, Teagan and Ryder of Red Deer, Renee (Danny) Ismond and their sons Dylan and Carter of Yorkton; her son Daniel Muzyka of Medicine Hat; her brother Mike Sawchyn of Edmonton; brother-in-law Walter Koshman of Edmonton; sister-in-law Agnes of Saskatoon; and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
