Obituary
Obituary of Allan James McKay
Our beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandpa, brother, uncle and good friend left this world peacefully on February 3, at the age of 61 surrounded by love at Yorkton and District Nursing Home after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. His kind heart and contagious smile will be missed by all that knew him. Al was born in Saskatoon, as a Montgomery boy he spent his days playing in his family's big back yard. Al also enjoyed spending his summers water skiing at Jackfish Lake and his winters downhill skiing at Lake Louise. He was an avid golfer, curler, Saskatchewan Rough Rider fan and enjoyed watching any sport. He loved to travel and especially enjoyed hot holidays. Al was a long-time member of the Saskatoon Softball Association and enjoyed helping when the World's Softball championships were hosted in Saskatoon. He received the Darren Lipinski Memorial Award for his outstanding contribution to softball in Saskatoon. Al instilled a love for team sports in his daughter Terlynne and could always be found coaching or helping to organize her ball or ringette teams. Al started his career at Safeway, then travelled Saskatchewan as a salesman for GlaxoSmithKline and Weber Pharmaceuticals, making life long friends along the way. Al took great pride in his position on the Board of Directors for the Park Town Hotel. No matter what Al did, work or play, he did it with enthusiasm and commitment. Al was deeply loved and will always be remembered by his wife Adelle Kopp-McKay, daughter Terlynne (mother Estelle), stepchildren Vanessa Roebuck (Mark) and Zachary McCandless (Lacey), grandchildren Lilly, Neeva, Kalea, Alaric and Izabella, sister Lois Roberge (Maurice), nieces Danielle, Desirae and Aimee Roberge, his Auntie Jean McKay (late John Dale) McKay and cousins Brian (Gloria), Dave, Terry, Bill, Daphne (Cliff), Judy, Don and Pat. In-laws, Glen, Duane (Charlotte), Lynal (Ruth), Rosanne (Dan), Gerald (Colleen), Gerard (Leah) and many nieces and nephews. Al was predeceased by his mother Afra Juliette (Verbeke) McKay and his father Stewart Bryce (Mac) McKay and his brother-in-law Bruce Kopp. We would like to thank the Skinner Unit staff at Yorkton and District Nursing Home for their kindness during Al's stay. Memorial donations in memory of Allan may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Saskatchewan. Arrangements in care are being coordinated by both Bailey's Funeral Home, Yorkton and Mourning Glory Funeral Services, Saskatoon.
