Obituary of Lorraine Emma Hanowski

HANOWSKI, Lorraine Emma (nee Markwart). On Saturday, October 14, 2017, our hearts filled with sorrow when our beloved Lorraine peacefully left us. She was 83 years of age. Lorraine was born on the family farm in the Nuedorf/Lemberg district of Saskatchewan on March 5, 1934 to Herman and Elizabeth Markwart. She was baptized and confirmed at the quaint Christ Lutheran Church outside of Lemberg. Lorraine grew up in a large family with eleven brothers and one sister. She received her education at Ulmer country school. Lorraine met her husband, Sigmund Hanowski, while working as a waitress in Regina at the Novia cafe. Lorraine and Sig married on Dec. 3, 1955 in Melville where they attended St. Henry's Roman Catholic Church. They were blessed with two sons and five daughters. Lorraine was a wonderful cook. Her perogies, pies, and cakes were always a family favourite. She managed a busy lifestyle on the farm as a wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She tended two gardens and managed to make time for canning meat, fruits and vegetables. She was always willing to work alongside Sig helping with outdoor chores. She also loved to embroider and crochet, and found time to resume her crocheting in her later years. In 1968, Sig and Lorraine endured the tragic loss of their daughter, Darlene, at the age of 3. In 2002, tragedy struck again for Lorraine when she dealt with the loss of her loving husband, Sig. After Sig's passing, Lorraine left farm life and in recent years, she resided at the Balcarres Integrated Care Centre, where she entered her eternal rest. Lorraine was predeceased by her husband Sig and daughter Darlene; parents Herman and Elizabeth Markwart; two brothers, Allen and Norman; brother-in-law Ken Petreman; two sisters-in-law, June Markwart and Geraldine Markwart; son-in-law Jay Heseltine; and her mother and father-in-law, Sebastian and Theresa Hanowski. To cherish her memory Lorraine leaves her children: Larry (Marian) Hanowski and their children, Elysia, Aron and Everett; Linda (Ray) Krupski and Linda's children, Jason (Amy), Jarret (Jenna) and Jeremy (Pamela), and Ray's children, Cole (Amy) and Tyler (Danielle); Diana (Randy) Dietrich; Cynthia Heseltine; Gerard Hanowski and his children, Taylor and Jamie; and Marcella (Earl) Gosick and their children, Danielle and Tyson. Lorraine also leaves to mourn numerous great grandchildren, her sister (Verna) and nine brothers (Lorenz, Wallace, Raymond, Gordon, Leonard, Dennis, Mervin, Glen and Jerry) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
