Obituary of Norman Yasinsky

YASINSKY - Norman Yasinsky, beloeved husband of Eleanor of Yorkton, passed away on Saturday, October 14th, 2017 at Orkney House, Yorkton & District Nursing Home. He was 84 years of age. Norman grew up on the family farm, attended school in Wroxton then finished his last two years of high school in Yorkton. After completing Grade 12, Norman attended Teacher's College in Moose Jaw in 1951. He alternately taught at White Beech, Togo, Calder and attended university. In 1958 he married Eleanor Kotyk of White Beech. After graduating from University of Saskatchewan in 1961 with Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts degrees, he taught at Unity, Yorkton Collegiate, then at the Yorkton Regional High School from its opening in 1966 until he retired in 1989 where he taught Physics, Geotrig and Calculus. He then taught Community College for five years. Norman was an accomplished self-taught handyman who would often help friends and family with whatever was asked of him, from carpentry to yard care to car repairs to farm work. Always encouraging and willing to help, he never turned down a student's request for assistance even after they had finished high school. Norman loved to fish, golf, do woodwork, hunt, watch sports, and maintain his yard and vehicles. He built beautiful furniture until his arthritis prevented him from continuing. A favorite pastime was watching his grandkids activities. He will be remembered for his inquisitive mind, quick wit and great sense of humor. He was still very active until he suffered a stroke in February. Until then he went for walks daily, helped deliver Meals on Wheels, worked bingo, helped at the hall and was a member of Knights of Columbus and Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood. His determination and positive attitude helped him make great progress from the stroke, but he never fulfilled his wish to return home. Norman was predeceased by his parents, John and Nettie Yasinsky; siblings Virginia, Mike, Mervin, Anne, Olga and Mary; nephews and nieces Gary Yasinski, Beverly Yasinski, Sydney Zamonsky, Kim Sawchuk and Vern Yasinski; brother-in-laws Steve Dozorec, Frank Zatylny, Morris Sawchuk, Mike Zamonsky and Nick Kotyk. He leaves to mourn his wife Eleanor, son Jason (Kim) of Cold Lake, daughters Lynn (David) Rotariu of Regina and Tracy of Winnipeg, grandchildren Chantal Lesyk, Jessica, Ashley and Ethan Rotariu, and sister Natalia (Peter) Burleigh of Peachland, BC, sister-in-law Nettie (Mervin) Yasinski and numerous nieces and nephews. The Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Thursday, October 19th 2017 from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church with Fr. Ray Lukie C.Ss.R. as celebrant. The responses were led by Bernadette Gabora, Victor Puchala and members of St. Mary's Parish Choir. The Epistle-reader was Sherry Soura, the Crossbearer was Shelly Yasinski. The interment followed in the Garden of Gethsemane at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Emil Strutynski, Victor Puchala, Rick Zamonsky, Al Flavel, Jim Dozorec and Howie Zatylny serving as the casketbearers. At the memorial luncheon following the burial, Peter Burleigh gave the eulogy. Memorials were to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to St. Mary's Church.
