Obituary of Dora Unchulenko

UNCHULENKO - It is with great pride that we pay tribute to our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Dora Unchulenko. Dora passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017 at the age of 92 at the Esterhazy Centennial Special Care Home. Dora (named Domka at birth) was born on April 16, 1925 and was the second youngest of Mary (nee Ellaschuk) and Leon Kozaruk's five children. On July 21, 1946, Dora married Louie Unchulenko. Dora and Louie started their lives together on the Unchulenko homestead west of MacNutt. Here they welcomed their children Robert (1947), John (1948) and Sheila (1952). They remained on the farm until the children were old enough to start school at which time they moved into MacNutt. Dora was a kind and gentle soul, who very rarely complained. She took pride in her garden and flower beds, and she loved visiting with family and friends. She also loved to make sure everyone was very well fed. Her home was always filled with the smells of borscht, sausage and perogies. We often joked that as soon as the supper dishes were washed and put away, she was already hauling everything back out for "lunch". Ensuring we always had enough to eat was just one way she showed her love. After Louie passed away, Dora met Andrew Wereschuk and then moved to Calder. Dora and Andy moved to Churchbridge in 2008, and after Andy's decline in health, Dora eventually moved to her final home in Esterhazy in 2015. Dora was predeceased by her husband Louie (1978), daughter Sheila (2011) and husband Andy (2015). She was also predeceased by her parents Mary and Leon Kozaruk, brothers Nick, Wasyl and Jim and sister Laura Danelko. Dora is remembered by her family: Bob & Carol Unchulenko of Esterhazy; and John & Darlene Unchulenko of St. Albert, Alta.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Kristen & Rae Groeneveld, Jarred, Jessica and Joel; Michelle Unchulenko; Mark Unchulenko & Lydia Molinara, and Gio; Scott & Aimee Unchulenko, Bree, Cori and Bridger; Heather & Fred Kerschbaumer, Caleb and Emery; Graig & Christie Unchulenko, Makenna and Avery; Bryan & Erin Unchulenko, Mackenzie, Henrik and Ben; and son-in-law Stan Doty and family.
