Obituary of Beverly Weger

Beverly Gayle Freda arrived to celebrate her father's birthday on April 29, 1940. The third of five children born to Gust and Gertrude Anderson, Bev was born in Saltcoats and lived in many places in her early years as the family moved to follow Gust's job with the CPR. The place she spoke about the most was Napinka, Manitoba, where she had many memories of working at Red and Ada's Restaurant. It was when Gust came to work at the pump house in Neudorf that she met Elvin Weger. Elvin and Bev were married on November 22, 1958 and settled on the family farm southwest of Neudorf. They were blessed with three children (or little monkeys, as she often referred to them), Sharon, Len and Lynda. Transitioning to the country life was a challenge at first for a town girl, but Bev quickly came to love the valley, farming, gardening and flowers. Bev farmed alongside Elvin, not only the grain land but cattle and hogs as well. They also milked cows for a while, but that didn't last long as Bev hated milking. Bev had a green thumb and the harvest from her garden was always bountiful. Freezing, canning and pickling were preferred activities - cooking not so much, even though she was a good cook and an excellent baker. Bev was always there to help her kids with any homework or studying, and taught them all how to play ball. She also kept busy with sewing and knitting, both clothes for herself and the kids and later afghans for the grandkids. In 1992, when they could no longer continue farming due to Elvin's health, the decision was made to move to Yorkton and Bev went to school and obtained her Office Education certificate. She was employed at Dowie's Stationery, which she loved and treated as "her" store, and worked there for ten years. Bev then worked briefly at Giant Tiger and retired after Elvin's death in October 2006. As long as her health allowed, Bev kept active as she walked to and from the Co-op with carefully measured groceries in each hand - no more than eight pounds in each bag. Bev enjoyed visits with family, including long phone conversations with her sister and partner-in-crime, Shirley. Bev always had a sharp mind, and enjoyed coming up with jokes and tricks to play on whoever she could (usually her family). She also enjoyed watching TV at all hours (including getting up at 3 am to watch World Curling), and going for Chinese food. Bev passed away peacefully on September 27, 2017. She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Sharon (Calvin Assman) and family; Len; and Lynda (Garnet Schweitzer) and family: Danielle (Lyndon) Graff, Carissa (Lijah) Behnke and daughter Jayna, Alanna (Taylor) Schick and Kendra Schweitzer; and many other friends and family. There will be no funeral service at Bev's request.
