Obituary of Donald Helberg

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Don - our beloved husband, father and grandfather. He left us suddenly at home in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on September 9, 2017 at the age of 61. Don, the oldest child of Ed & Helga Helberg, was born in Wadena hospital on April 10, 1956. He grew up in Wadena and it was there in high school where he met the love of his life, Diane (nee Dvernichuk). On August 7, 1976, they were united in marriage and to that union two sons were born - Derek (January 8, 1979) and David (October 23, 1980). Don started his career with SaskTel in 1980 in Yorkton and lived in various places throughout Saskatchewan. Don's family meant very much to him. He loved spending special time with his grandchildren. Don enjoyed travelling and touring different destinations with Diane, his best friend. Don will be forever missed by his loving wife of 41 years, Diane, and his children, Derek (Trina) and David (Jacqueline); his four grandsons, Kole, Hayden, Jaxson and Hudson; his mother, Helga; his siblings, Brian (Diane) and Elden (Keri); sisters-in-law Gail and Glynnis and brother-in-law Thel (Lea); as well as aunties, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Don was predeceased by his father Ed, uncle Art Helberg, aunt Marian Bereti (Paul Sukovieff) (Albert Bereti), uncle Joe Kalt, cousin Darren Helberg, father- and mother-in-law Victor and Anne Dvernichuk, and brother-in-law Jack Dvernichuk. The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Doreen Day, Certified Celebrant officiating. Musical Selections included in the service were "Angels Among Us" by Alabama and "I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack. The readings were given by Trina Helberg and Jacqueline Rhinas - Helberg. Living Life Poem was shared by Jacqueline Rhinas - Helberg. A Tribute to Don from Diane was presented by Trina Helberg. A eulogy was presented by David Helberg. Guest book attendants were Donna Code & Jennie Reynolds. Honourary Urn Bearers were Kole Helberg, Hayden Helberg, Jaxson Helberg and Hudson Helberg. The inurnment followed in the Prairieview Columbarium at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Derek Helberg serving as the Urn Bearer.
