Obituary of John Thomas Lozinski

LOZINSKI - Mr. John Lozinski, formerly of the Ituna district passed away on Saturday, May 27th, 2017 at Echo Valley Lodge in Fort Qu'Appelle. He was 86 years of age. John Thomas Lozinski, the sixth child of John and Lillian (nee Leontowich) was born on September 14th, 1930 in the Tullymet District, Saskatchewan. John attended school in File Hills, Saskatchewan. At an early age, John joined his older brothers and sisters in helping out on the family farm. As an adult, he took pride in farming his own land and being a member of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and the Co-operative. When John could no longer farm, John was a volunteer at the Balcarres Hospital and translated in the Ukrainian language for other Seniors in Balcarres, Saskatchewan where John lived for many years prior to his final move to Fort Qu'Appelle. John had many skills and interests, and was an accomplished hunter, trapper and carpenter. He played sports with his siblings when he was young and then taught sports endlessly to his nieces and nephew when he was older. Uncle John was a kid's best friend and would play ball as long as the kids wanted to play. He could catch and throw a ball, or shoot a hockey stick with either hand. His skilled carpentry included making furniture for family members which is still in use today. John was predeceased by his parents (John and Lillian), siblings Kay, Mike, Adolph, Mary, William (and his sister-in-law, Audrey) and Carol. He is survived by his brothers, Peter and Joseph, of Ituna, his nephew, Joe W of Regina, and his nieces Carla of Regina and Jackie of Honduras and their families. Prayers were held on Thursday, June 1, 2017 and the Funeral Liturgy on Friday, June 2, 2017, both at Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ituna, Saskatchewan. The Celebrant was Very Rev. Father Peter Pidskalny, C.Ss.R. and responses to the services were led by Ladmer Moskal, Heidi Spilchuk and Wayne Boczulak. The cross bearer was Glen Leontowich. The interment followed in the Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery with Joseph Lozinski, Don Braden, Joe W. Lozinski, Brad Brown, Thomas Taylor and Trintan Taylor serving as the casket bearers.
