Obituary of Mervin Bierwagen

Mervin William Bierwagen was born on February 15, 1946 in Melville, Saskatchewan, a son to William and Ustina (nee Gendur) Bierwagen. Mervin attended Greenbush School near Fenwood as a child, eventually heading to Melville High School. It was there that he met the love of his life Jackie Ritthaler of whom he spent 50 wonderful years with. Mervin and Jackie were married March 25, 1967 at the First United Church in Melville. Mervin continued his schooling at STI in Moose Jaw where he obtained his welding certificate, Mervin and Jackie resided in Melville for a few years before eventually moving out to Fenwood to become a part of the family farm. It was not long after that their lives were blessed with two miracles, their daughter Misty and their son Kelly. Mervin loved farm life and was a true farmer at heart. His love of sports started with listening to Saturday night hockey on the radio where he became a life long Montreal Canadian fan. He was also a die-hard Calgary Stampeders fan, to which he almost never missed a game on TV. Mervin was a talented fastball player in his younger days, where he played with the Melville Comets. Mervin also enjoyed many years participating in both men's and mixed curling. These were where he made a lot of life long friends. In his leisure time, Mervin loved life at the lake, his second home. Many wonderful memorials were made over the past 36 years there with his wife, children, grandchildren and numerous friends enjoying the place he loved so much. Mervin's life revolved around his love for his wife, children and grandchildren whom he always put first in his life. Mervin entered his eternal rest peacefully on Saturday, May 20th, 2017 at St. Peter's Hospital surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 71 years. Predeceased by his father William and mother Ustina. Mervin leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 50 years Jackie, daughter Misty (Brent) Husnik and their children Brooklyn and Blake, son Kelly (Jinelle) Bierwagen and their sons Kincaid and Aiden, his faithful furry companions Abbey and Phoenix, his sisters Iona (Jim) Scott and Shiela (Harold) Bierwagen and his niece Sherry (Paul) Deines and their daughters Samantha and Rebeccah, as well as numerous extended family members and friends. It is with deep regret we his family must let him go, but we know that now he may finally have peace he so greatly deserves. Memorial donations may be made to the S.P.C.A. or "The Friends of Unit 3B" at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina c/o the Hospitals of Regina Foundation.
