Obituary of Eugene James Artemenko

Eugene Artemenko husband of the Late Janice Artemenko of Yorkton, formerly of the Calder district passed away on March 15, 2017 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was seventy eight years of age. Eugene was born October 13, 1938 on the family farm at NE 6 - 25 - 30 west of the first in the Calder district of Saskatchewan. He was the youngest son of Eli and Mary (nee Skrepnek) Artemenko. Eugene was a farmer at heart although he had other jobs and interests. He grew up in Calder until being wed to Janice on March 7th 1964. They moved to Canora where he managed a Robinson's store. Son Barry was born July 1964. The following year they returned to Calder where Eugene accepted a grain buyer position with P&H. Son Dino was born September 1966. Shortly thereafter the family all moved back to the homestead where his farming career started. Daughter Lori was born October 1970. Son Jeffrey was born January 1977. They stayed on the farm until moving to Yorkton in 2000. Farming continued until 2004, when health issues arose they chose to retire. He continued to live in Yorkton until his passing. Eugene always loved music. He played instruments when he was younger and always had a radio playing wherever he was. Eugene also loved to travel and took many trips overseas. He had a passion for growing things. From the crops on the field to all the beautiful flowers in their yard in Yorkton. Eugene was predeceased by his wife, Janice (nee Staple); brothers, George and Bill; and a sister, Dora; granddaughters, Adanna and Ava. Left to remember are his four children Barry, Dino, Lori (Brice), Jeff (Coralee). His grandchildren Echo (Kevin), Melissa, Levon, Brittany, Danica, Mason and Gavin; great granddaughter, Nevaeh; brother, John (Alma); sisters, Mary Cheetam and Sylvia Kendel; and many brother and sister in laws, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The family would like to thank all the staff at the Yorkton Hospital for their loving care in Dad's final days. Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Jen Dresser of the United Church of Canada officiating. The organist, Amanda Buhler led the congregation in the singing of the hymn Amazing Grace. Special musical selections were I'll Fly Away by George Jones and Before the Next Tear Drop Falls by Freddy Fender. Tributes and words of remembrance were given by Eugene's children. Mason Glagau was an honourary bearer. Interment followed in the Garden of Gethsemane in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Barry Artemenko, Dino Artemenko, Jeff Artemenko, Levon Artemenko, Brice Glagau and John Kaal serving as casketbearers.
