Obituary of Katerina Zuchkan

Zuchkan, Mrs. Katerina Kay went to her 'Maker' on Friday, Feb. 10th 2017 at the Invermay Health Care Centre. She was 95 years of age. Kay was born on January 29, 1922 and along with her two sisters and seven brothers grew up on the family farm south of Insinger, and attended War End School. She met Mike Zuchkan at a country dance, and eventually married in 1942. They lived with Mike's family for a short time, then moved to a small farm in the Parkerview district. A few years later they purchased a quarter in the Insinger district, built their home, and lived there until their retirement in 1978. They moved to Theodore and lived there for a good number of years. After Mike's passing, Kay continued to live there another four years, then moved to Yorkton. Kay loved to garden. She had one of the prettiest yards in the district when she lived on their farm. She took this skill with her to Theodore. Her yard was colorful and seemed to be in bloom all season long. She was an active farm wife, along with a good mother to her three children. She could do everything from milking cows, raising chickens and turkeys, canning meat, keeping a large garden, driving tractor, and producing lovely surroundings both inside and out. She loved to keep busy, and had many interests, most notably cooking and baking. Kay belonged to the Insinger Ladies Aid, and the Ukrainian Ladies group in Theodore. She was predeceased by her son Orvid in 1970, her husband Mike in 2002; and by brothers John, Bill, Steve, Alex, Joe & Nick. Kay will be sorely missed by her family: son Jeffrey (Gloria) Zuchkan of the Insinger district; daughter Elaine (Perry) Jacobson of High River, AB; grandchildren: Kim (Blair) Myers, Kendra Zuchkan (Ryan Sims), Travis (Angela) Jaconson, Kurtis (Anika) Zuchkan, and Garrett (Melanie) Zuchkan; great grandchildren: Justin, Mitchel, Violet, Zita, Elliot and Thomas; sisters: Alice Wehnan of Edmonton and Alexandra Novak of Regina; a brother Matt of Hamilton, ON; numerous nieces, nephews and her large extended family. We are so very grateful to have had this talented intelligent woman in our lives for as long as we did. Prayers were held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 and the funeral service was held on Friday, February 17, 2017 all from Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church with Very Rev. Mel Slashinsky officiating. Yvonne Panchuk along with members of the Parish Choir sang the responses. Russell Krywulak was the Crossbearer. The interment took place in the Garden of Crucifiixion at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Garrett Zuchkan, Kurtis Zuchkan, Ryan Sims, Ethan Gray, Willy Zuchkan and Steve Cara serving as casketbearers. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.baileysfuneralhome.com Memorials honouring Katerina's life may be made to The Health Foundation as gifts of remembrance.
