Obituary of Edward "Ed" Ostafie

OSTAFIE - Mr. Edward "Ed" Ostafie of Yorkton, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Friday, February 10, 2017. He was 93 years of age Ed was born on March 12, 1923 on the family farm to John and Frances (nee Opaczuk) Ostafie. He was united in marriage to Lena Ostafie (nee Kobylka) on October 15, 1950 and they were blessed with two children Sharon and Ken. His career began as a farmer before being employed at the Yorkton Hospital. Ed was a great historian and full of wisdom. He was a hardworking, compassionate, caring, generous and kind man. He treasured every visit with his family and was a very proud father and grandfather. He and Lena enjoyed extensive travelling which included trips to Hawaii, Cuba, Jamaica and Mazatlan Mexico. Upon Lena's passing in 2006 he continued to enjoy spending time with family, fishing at Lake of the Prairies, helping his family in any way possible and spoiling his great-granddaughters with sweet and not so healthy snacks. He also loved going on Sunday drives out of town to explore nature, working in his yard and picking strawberries. You could also find Ed at the Fall Suppers in the fall or any garage sale during the spring and summer. Ed was predeceased by his parents, his wife Lena, his son Ken and siblings; Nellie, Judy, Jean, Rose, Eileen, Alice, Carl, Albin, Julian, Peter and Norman. Ed will be dearly missed by and leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Sharon; grandchildren, Suzanne (Daryn) of Yorkton, Sheldon of Vancouver, Miranda of Saskatoon, Vanessa of Terrace, Jordan of Mexico and Rebecca of Chilliwack; great-granddaughters, Megan and Madison of Yorkton; great-grandson, Ethan of Mexico; sister, Mary Malinsky of Rhein and brother Paul (Jeanette) Ostafie of Regina as well as several nieces and nephews. A Service of Comfort was held on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home in Yorkton with Crystal Bailey, Certified Celebrant officiating. A private family service followed next day. Special Musical Selections, The Lord is My Shepherd, Grandpa and Grandpa Told Me So were included in the service. The interment took place in the Yorkton City Cemetery.
