Obituary of Peter Jacob Lambert

Peter Jacob Lambert was born on October 15, 1926, the oldest son of Walter and Julia (Osika) Lambert on a family farm near Wishart Saskatchewan. Peter grew up on a farm near Wishart with 10 brothers and sisters. He spent his childhood working on the farm doing typical chores such as feeding and milking cows, cutting and splitting wood, working with the horses and helping to hay, seed, cultivate and thresh the fields. Growing up, Peter's Sundays were spent making the 6 mile trip to Wishart Church by either horse and buggy or sleigh in the winter. After completing school, Peter worked in Ontario for the winters for a number of years and then returning in the spring to help his dad out with the farming. He started in a paper mill in Dryden and then worked in a number of lumber camps. He started his own mixed farming operation in 1949 by purchasing land 12 miles south of Kelliher. He married Jean Szarkowicz in 1955. They lived on the farm until 1967 when a fire destroyed their house and then they moved to Kelliher. Peter continued to farm, but in the winter he was caretaker of the arena. He was known as the best natural ice maker in the Right Angle Hockey League. Peter retired from farming in 1991 and continued to live in Kelliher. In 2009, they moved to Regina to live in the Renaissance Retirement Community. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was fond of playing cards especially trica or also known as 3-spot.
