Obituary of Doris Magas

Doris Ann Magas (Yarymichuk) of Kelowna went to heaven January 4th, 2017, wife of the late Nick Magas of Yorkton. They travelled to Texas to their winter residence for twenty three years. Doris is a daughter of the late Tom and Katie Yaremichuk. She was born in Insinger district February 25, 1925 and attended school at Chernowitz. She married Nick Magas on November 17, 1942. They moved to Watson district where they farmed for ten years before moving to Nipawin where Nick joined Graham Construction and moved around the province with the company. Later they bought a hotel in Canora. After 15 years they moved to Yorkton. Doris was an active member in the church, choir and in the Women's Auxiliary. Doris is survived by her three sons: Edward (Sharron) of West Kelowna; Dan (Una) of West Kelowna; and Terry (Marliss) of Kelowna. Grandchildren: Thomas (Tuyet) Magas of Calgary, Barbarah (Garett) Teriann of Moose Jaw, Christine Charbonneau of Lloydminster & Chantelle Magas. Great grandchildren: Harreson, Heathir (Tom), Haydenn and Holdyn Teriann of Moose Jaw. Also sisters Victoria Snitinsky and Katie Onslow. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive her. Prayers were held on Thursday evening, January 12th 2017 and the funeral service was held on Friday morning, January 13th 2017, all from Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton. Very Rev. Fr. Mel Slashinsky officiated. Cantor, Yvonne Panchuk lked members of the Parish Choir in the singing of the responses. The crossbearer was Dwayne Kitzan. Honorary bearers were John Snitinsky, Veronika Drul, Pauline Yaschuk, Eileen Brown, Jean Skwarchuk & Bill & Martha Bodnaryk. Members of the Olena Pchilka branch of the Ukrainian Womens Association formed and Honour Guard. The interment took place in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Bob Onslow, Dave Essar, Emil Nelson, Al Cunningham, Dryw Onslow and Colby Onslow serving as the casketbearers. At the memorial luncheon, Debbie Onslow sang 'Amazing Grace'. Memorials were to the Canadian Cancer Society.
