Obituary of Louise Webster

It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Julia Louise Webster on December 31, 2016. Louise was born on April 8th, 1921 to Dennis and Sarah Downes in Stockholm, Sask. Louise began her education in Esterhazy and concluded high school in Rocanville. Louise, after finishing school took a culinary course to help in the family restaurant, but much preferred working in the local doctor's clinic. In Rocanville, she met her first husband Reginald (Reg) Cooper who she married in November of 1942. Reg and Louise moved to Bredenbury where Louise helped Reg run his heavy equipment construction business as well as raise their family of five children. In 1964, Reg died suddenly leaving Louise to raise the three youngest children on her own. In November of 1966, Louise remarried a long-time family friend Richard (Dick) Webster. They moved to the Webster family farm in the Clumber District. Louise became very involved with the farming operation. Their daughter Lorna Ann Marie was born in January of 1968. Eventually the farm was sold and they moved back into Bredenbury where Louise worked for Prince Insurance Agency. Dick was Louise's soul mate and partner. Together they had a good life travelling extensively and enjoying many of the same interests. In 2006, Dick and Louise sold their home in Bredenbury and moved to the Bentley in Yorkton. After Dick's death in 2010, Louise, due to failing health, moved to the Gladstone, Kamsack Care Home and eventually in September of 2015 to Lakeside Manor in Saltcoats where she resided till her passing. Louise was very proud of her Irish heritage and would remind all on March 17 that she was 100% Irish-Canadian. She could be feisty and determined and would let you know if she thought you stepped out of line, but on the other hand always championed the underdog whether amongst family or friends. Louise was a people person who kept close contact with relatives and friends alike, always had time for a visit, and over the years took care of many who had no family. As a wife, mother and grandmother she was always supportive in whatever her family endeavoured. She did not interfere or demand attention, but loved when family gathered and had a good time. Louise was always involved in community organizations. She enjoyed working with Bredenbury Community Club, Figure Skating club, Curling Club, Busy Bees, and Saskatchewan Senior Association. Louise was also very involved in the Legion Ladies Auxiliary where she was on the local executive and a Saskatchewan Zone Rep. She was very proud in 1989 to receive her Pin and Certificate of Life Membership as well as the 50 year Medal in 1997 honouring and thanking her for years of Service and a job well done from the Royal Canadian Legion Sask Command Ladies' Auxiliary. Louise loved to read, play cards and was an avid fan of the weather channel and curling. She shared her many talents of sewing, knitting, chocolate making; and, of course, CROCHETING. Her hands were always busy, right up to a few days before her death. Louise was predeceased by: her parents, Dennis and Sarah, sisters Nellie Hokanson and Bessie Buckell, brothers John, Andrew, Francis and Wilbert Downes; Husbands, Reginald Cooper and Richard Webster; a child in infancy; and sons-in-law Myron Gabert and Peter Welechenko.
