Obituary of Luba Lorraine Stephens

It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of our mother and friend Luba Stephens nee (Calmakov) after a courageous battle with Breast cancer. Luba left us peacefully, in the arms of loved ones at her family's home on December 20, 2016. Luba was born in Yorkton Saskatchewan on January 5th, 1954, to Martha Gorenko nee (Negraeff) and Milton Calmakov. She received her education in Yorkton and created many lasting friendships and relationships. She brought two loving children into this world. A son, Riley Stephens and a daughter Kelly Procyshen nee (Stephens), whom she loved and supported until the very end. Luba decided after many years to return to school for Massage Therapy. She attended the pilot program at McKay Tech in Saskatoon and in 1996 she graduated with Distinction. Full of knowledge and with an eagerness to keep learning she worked in the field for twenty years, providing and passing on her knowledge to others. One of Luba's favorite classes throughout the years and an opportunity for knowledge was the anatomy class at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. It had such an impact on Luba, that her wishes were to donate her body to the same program for Science research. Luba is predeceased by her parents and her eldest sister Anna. Luba will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by everyone who knew her, but especially by her friend and partner Craig Holmes, her son Riley Stephens (Michelle McCarthy), her daughter Kelly(Kevin) Procyshen, her grandchildren Hayley, Ryann, Hillary, Brett, Keira and Kennley, her sisters Sandra(Ron) Coates, Donna Hilton, Kathy(Tony) Bast and Joyce Coutts. Also, many special nieces and nephews, and all other family members and very special friends. Luba's family is grateful to all their friends and family members for all your prayers and many acts of kindness during this difficult time. We want to thank from the bottom of our hearts all the nurses, palliative care nurses and doctors who played a major role in helping with her excellent care till the very end. Your loving care and compassion was like no other and for that we will be forever grateful. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.baileysfuneralhome.com Donations in her memory can be made to the Allan Blair Cancer Centre or to the Regina Cancer Patient Lodge c/o Saskatchewan Cancer Agency 200-4545 Parliament Ave, Regina, SK S4W 0G3 because of the roll they played in her treatment. A celebration of life will be planned for later in 2017.
