Obituary of John Dorush

DORUSH - John Dorush of Canora, SK passed away Monday December 5th, 2016 at the age of 85 years. John leaves his beloved wife Mary (nee Alberding) of 46 years and son Robert John Dorush also of Canora. John is predeceased by his three sisters: Stella Popowich, Kay Popowich, Rose Popowich; and three brothers: Mike Dorush, Walter Dorush, and Nick Dorush. John was born January 15th, 1931 and raised on the farm in the R.M. of Bon Accord in the Ituna, SK district and attended the Hard Rock School. At an early age, he left school to help with the family farm, as well as working for other farmers within the region. Many a story was told of snaring rabbits, picking "Sanicrutz", and other early adventures. For a while, John stayed with his brother Walter in Vancouver, BC where he worked at the Aylmer Tomato Soup Factory. After a while John travelled to CFB Shilo and work with barrack construction in the late 1940's. Returning to Yorkton and working with Hartmier Construction. In the late 1950's, John enjoyed his time working the Yorkton Terriers in his free time. On November 1st, 1955, John began his career with Saskatchewan Department of Highways & Transportation and would remain with the department until his retirement in January of 1996, 40 years later. Upon his retirement, John enjoyed working on small engines. He fixed many a lawn mower for a cup of coffee. He enjoyed going to auction sales and picking up that one rare engine that he didn't have in his collection. John's budget was usually $2 when finding these engines at an auction. His collection spans from 1908 to the 1950's. Even towards the end, he would constantly talk about the engine (Johnson Iron Horse) that he was going to fix. Prayers were held at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, December 7th, 2016. Mr. Ken Rolheiser was the Lay-Presider. The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, December 8th with Rev. Fr. Franklin Emereuwa, Celebrant. The interment took place in the Canora Cemetery with Dwayne Drosky, David Knox, Chad Romanow, Dennis Debussac, Brad Kaye & Dean Petersen serving as the casketbearers. Friends & Family so wishing may give a donation to a charity of their choice as tokens of remembrance.
