Obituary of Mary King

KING - Mrs. Mary King, recently of St. Paul Lutheran Home in Melville, formerly of Kelliher, beloved wife of the late Ralph King passed away on November 30, 2016. She was 87 years of age. Mary Olga (Kotylak) King was born December 25, 1928 on the family farm in the Lipton District to Anton and Katherine Kotylak. She attended school at Beres Ford and then in Jasmin until grade 9 followed by high school in Kelliher. Mary then completed a business course in Yorkton. Mary's work life was filled with adventure and variation. She worked as a Bookkeeper, Merchandiser, Secretary, Librarian, Teachers Aid, and Bank Teller throughout her career. Her work took her to Vancouver, Toronto, and back home to Kelliher. It was in Kelliher where she met the strapping Ralph King. They were married on May 20, 1957. Mary and Ralph had three children, Shelly, Bonnie, and Darcy. Ralph passed away in 1973 at the young age of 45. Mary was the rock of the family. Not only did she raise 3 children on her own, but she was always there for all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren to share in both good times and bad. She loved to explore and traveled across much of Canada and the US. Mary loved to curl, crochet, garden, and shop. She was well known as the classy lady that was always on top of the latest fashion, even well into her senior years. Mary was always surrounded by friends and played an active role in the United Church, as well as many clubs in the community. Mary was predeceased by her husband Ralph King, parents Anton and Katherine, brothers William (Helen), Joe (Rose), Jerry (Lucy) Kotylak, and sister Jean Lewko (Nester). Nephews Laverne Lewko and Kenny Kotylak. She is survived by her children Shelly (Ron), Bonnie (Ward), and Darcy (Donna). Grandchildren Dallas (Tessa), Douglas (Meghan), Spencer, Tiffany, Cameron, and Jayden. Great grandchildren Jade, Asia, and Jacob. Mary will be remembered for her positive attitude, witty personality, offside humor, and kind heart. The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at St. Margaret Mary Church in Kelliher with Rev. Brian Mee of the United Church of Canada officiating. Leonard Varga, guitarist and soloist sang special musical selections, 'Hallelujah' and 'Lord of the Dance'. The congregational hymns were 'Old Rugged Cross' and 'Just A Closer Walk With Thee'. Tributes and Words of Remembrance were shared by Dallas Allen, Spencer King, and Tiffany Kaminsky. A poem, 'Grandma's Gone to Heaven' was read by Douglas Allen, Cameron Kaminsky, and Jayden Kaminsky. The casket bearers were Mary's beloved grandchildren, Dallas Allen, Douglas Allen, Spencer King, Tiffany Kaminsky, Cameron Kaminsky and Jayden Kaminsky. The interment will take place at a later date at Kelliher Memorial Gardens. Memorials honouring Mary's life may be made to The Arthritis Society, to St. Paul Lutheran Home or to the Kelliher and District Heritage Museum as gifts of remembrance.
