Obituary of Gordon Marvle Gabert
GABERT - Gordon Marvle Gabert was born on the family farm in the Springside district of Saskatchewan on July 12, 1925; the son of Rudolph and Dolly (nee Katzberg) Gabert. He received his education at the Grunert School and later Springside School. In 1950 Gordon moved with his parents from the family farm to Yorkton. He was employed at several different establishments, the last was for the City of Yorkton Public Works. Gordon was a very outgoing person who waved at everyone he knew and would stop to talk. He had a good sense of humour and liked to joke around. On September 6th 1969 he was united in marriage to Katherine Burkhardt. They enjoyed travelling around the countryside, stopping for lunch or going to fall suppers. They often travelled to Ontario and Alberta to visit their daughters and to Snow Lake, MB to visit a nephew. Sunday mornings they would attend church at Westview United Church. While their son-in-law Nick was in RCMP training, their daughter Linda and children Brandy and Jade lived with them for two years. Those grandchildren were the joy of his life. Around 1995 Katherine's health began to decline and Gordon took very good care of her. When she became a permanent resident of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home in December of 1997, Gordon would visit daily to care for her. Katherine passed away in 2000. Sometime later he was introduced to Valetta Miskolczi. They became good friends and companions. When Valetta's health declined he would go to her apartment to let home-care workers in and see that all her needs were met - buying groceries, etc. When she became a resident of the nursing home he would go daily at meal times. After Valletta's death in 2012, Gordon moved to the Bentley. From there he made several more moves until becoming a resident of the Yorkton & District Nursing Home on October 5th of this year. Gordon passed away Sunday morning, November 5th. He was 91 years of age. Besides his wife Katherine, Gordon was predeceased by his parents; brothers Randolph and Bert; sister Elsie and brother-in-law Leslie Lange; sister Gracie and brother-in-law Edwin Bohn; daughter Florence; daughter Linda and son-in-law Nick Wentoniuk; sons-in-law Jim Rutherford and Albert Finch.
