Obituary of Angela "Nellie" Winniski
WINNISKI - Angela "Nellie" Winniski was born August 3rd, 1924 four miles south of Ituna; the second child and first daughter to Albert Olech and Apolina (nee) Kolodniski. In 1930 the family moved to the Wyber District and Nellie took all her schooling there. She worked at various jobs including clerking for Leo Rabinovich in Ituna. In 1948, June 20th she was united in marriage by Father Kissel to John Winniski at Saint Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church. They farmed in the Wyber District until 1982. They raised their four daughters: Donna, Beverley, Gloria, and Lynda. John and Nellie retired and moved to the town of Ituna on October 7th, 1984. Nellie was a member of the Wyber Community Club, Ituna Social Club, Sunshine Manor Friendship Club and the Sacred Heart Parish. She was always willing to give a helping hand to whoever needed it." Our Mom loved to garden, do needle work, paint, knit, and crochet making numerous gifts for family and friends. She was an amazing cook and baker who could whip up a full meal in minutes. She loved to socialize and her door was always open to family, friends and neighbours. She was an avid reader, had an amazing memory, and could relate facts and family history throughout her life. Mom was always a determined, hard worker and never complained even when she was ailing. She lived independently at the Sunshine Manor until her recent hospitalization and died peacefully in Palliative Care at the Ituna Healthcare Centre on Monday, October 24, 2016. Nellie was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother who delighted in her six special granddaughters and four great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed and leaves to mourn her daughters, Donna Lazeski of Regina, Beverley (Gordon) Schultz of Regina, Gloria (Erich) Skwara of San Diego, CA, and Lynda (Glen) Kowalyk of Ituna. Six granddaughters: Jolene (Burke), April, Gabriella, Alexandra, Janelle (Garnet), and Carissa (Casey) and four great grandchildren: Aniela and Atticus Yeomans, and Ayden and Alexander Zerr; brothers Joseph of Fort Qu'Appelle and John (Iris) of Peterborough, ON., sister Genevieve (Walter) Winniski of Regina and sister in-law, Diane Olech (John Protz) of Ituna as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband John, parents Albert and Apolina, brother Edward, and son in-law Rick Lazeski, parents in-law, Walter and Katherine Winniski, brothers and sisters-in-law Joseph and Jean Winniski, Elsie and Nicholas Tymoschuk, Olga and Walter Braden, Pauline Olech, Mary and Mike Tyminski, and Lucy and Mike Spatuk. Prayer services were held on Friday, October 28th 2016 from Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ituna with Very Rev. Fr. Peter Pidskalny C.Ss.R. officiating. The Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Saturday, October 30th 2016 from Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Fr. Jeffrey Stephaniuk as Celebrant. Cantors, Heidi Spilchak, Wayne Boczulak & Ladmer Moskal led in the singing of the responses. Larry Tymiak was the sacristan. The crossbearer was Carissa Yeomans, and Suzanne Wright was the Epistle-Reader. The interment followed in the Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery with Sheldon Olech, Burke Kowalski, Garnet Zerr, Casey Yeomans, Nick W. Karkut and James G. Martin serving as the casketbearers.
