My thoughts are very much with you all today as you meet to celebrate Dean's life. I attended his and Betty's wedding as a child and this was a union that was very special from the beginning. Some of my happiest childhood memories were spent on the farm - first when our grandparents lived there and then later among Dean and Betty's warm and generous hospitality. I share those memories with my cousins. We all loved to meet there to make mud pies in the wagon that took our parents to school when they were children, to swing from the rope in the barn, to pick peas and to feed animals, and to just have the freedom to roam freely around that space which was different from where we grew up in other towns. The farm represents family to me and Dean was at the centre of that family. I will always remember him as a big man with a big sense of humour. A laughing and smiling man, but a man who also had a very soft centre. We all were aware of his very big heart and every one of us felt his and Betty's kindness in so many ways growing up. He lived his life well to be so loved by all of us. We will miss him very much.

Always ready with a smile and a laugh and you saved me from a crazy chicken with a hammer thrown across what seemed like a 100 yards. Sure that memory is a bit hazy after all these years but one thing is clear, I know you will be missed by all who met you.

Our sincere condolences to Betty and family. I will always cherish the fond memories of the times spent with my buddy Dean in our teen years. Given his easy going demeanor, he was always a stabilizing influence. Although we seldom saw each other during later years, when we did meet, it seemed we just picked up where we left off, the sign of a true friend or as the social media calls it, your BFF, Best Friend Forever. Rest in peace Louie and we'll catch you later.....Don.
