MALAINEY - Sadly we, the family announce the passing of Katie Malainey on October 5, 2016 at the age of 95 years. Kay was born on April 20, 1921 in the Stornoway district, raised on the family farm and attended Brandon Public School. After moving to Yorkton in 1953 she worked in the service industry as a waitress and retired after 31 years. In 1979 she received the Hospitality Award from the Coop which she was very proud of. During her retirement she joined the Golden Agers bowling league and looked forward to the game every week. She loved to go dancing with the Why Be Alone group and taking numerous bus tours. Hours were spent with her 2 grandsons at picnics playing frizbee and hide and go seek which she thoroughly enjoyed. She also enjoyed helping at the Ukrainian Orthodox Auditorium and New Horizons with lunches. After bypass surgery she moved to Saskatoon and spent hours enjoying being with her family, watching the pelicans on the river and never refused to take a ride around the city. With her health failing she moved to Stensrud Lodge in January where she entered eternal rest on October 5th, 2016. To mourn her passing and celebrate her life she leaves her son Dave (Lilyan) Malainey, grandsons Cory, Jamie (Crystal), and great grandsons Jordan and Joshua and many nieces and nephews.Katie was predeceased by her father Pete, mother Mary, brothers Nick, Metro, William, Fred, Edward, sisters Anna Zacharuk, Martha Lacktin and Lena Achtymichuk.
