Obituary of Jean Woroschuk
WOROSCHUK - Mrs. Jean Woroschuk of Yorkton, widow of the late Peter Woroschuk, formerly of the Calder district, passed away on August 30th 2016 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. She was 95 years of age. Mom was born November 25, 1920, the sixth child of Nick and Veronia (Antony) Wicheruk, west of MacNutt. Mom attended Chornawka School. Due to her mother being widowed at an early age, Mom left home as a young lady to work for different families including a lawyer in Yorkton. During her employment in the Stornoway area she attended a church service where she met Dad for the first time. Dad said "Mom was as pretty as a little doll". November 5, 1944, Mom and Dad were married at St. Mary's Orthodox Church, MacNutt by Reverend Nick Urbanowitz. The wedding reception was in the house of Dad's parents north of Calder. They were donated $230.00 and started out by living with Dad's parents for 4 years. Mom worked hard in all aspects of farm life. More than anything she was a motivator and encourager. She led by good example in all she did; everything from baking bread, growing a beautiful garden, milking cows, helping on the field and in everything that was required of her as a hardworking farm wife and mother. Mom enjoyed the outdoors; picking mushrooms, hazelnuts, and berries and being helpful regardless of how difficult a job was. Dad and Mom retired from the farm and moved to Yorkton in 2001. Their son Andrew (Kim) continue farming on the family farm. Mom was definitely our cheerleader; happy for our successes and accomplishments. Our Mom was faithful in her daily prayers and faith in God; she practiced and instilled Christian faith in us. Everyone was always welcome at her house and you never left mom's table without being fed. Up until Mom's passing she kept a diary about the daily events in our lives and also kept a church diary for St. Marks Orthodox Church. Mom enjoyed going to the Lion's Day Wellness program at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home where she attended church, visited, played cards and took part in group activities, even making paschka. The many pairs of mitts and slippers she knit us will be treasured by all her family. We have many fond memories of her keen sense of humour and the time we enjoyed with her. She rarely got angry with us and if she did she wouldn't show it. Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling over the years but more than anything they looked forward to family time with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially at weddings, Christmas and Easter. Mom, I hope you know how much we love you and will always miss you. Mom is survived by her children: Andrew (Kim) of Calder; Stan (Louise) of Yorkton; Marge (Gordie) Stevenson of Yorkton; Stephanie (John) Bodnaryk of Rhein; 10 grandchildren, LeeAnn (Peter) Novak of White City, Angie Redpath of Lloydminster, LaVerne Woroschuk (Steve Bailey) of Calgary, Dave (Kara) Fyck of Yorkton, Sherry (Grant) Lindgren of Pilot Butte, Dean (Eileen) Fyck of Yorkton, Melissa (Ryan) Samenook of Edmonton, Ian (Maria) Bodnaryk of Yorkton, Stacy (Adam) Vangen of Canora, Colin (Jill) Bodnaryk of Grandora and 18 great grandchildren.
